20090048689ACTUATION RESPONSE OSCILLATION DETECTION MONITOR - A method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for monitoring an actuator for a control surface on an aircraft. In one advantageous embodiment, an error signal generated is received in response to sending a command to the actuator to move the control surface on the aircraft. Responsive to receiving the error signal, an amplitude and a frequency are identified for the error signal. A determination is made as to whether the amplitude exceeds a set of amplitude limits for the frequency, wherein each amplitude in the set of amplitude limits is associated with a requirement in a set of requirements. An exceedance count is incremented for each requirement in the set of requirements in which an associated amplitude limit has been exceeded by the amplitude to form an updated set of exceedance counts. A fault indication is generated if any exceedance count in the updated set of exceedance counts is greater than a threshold.02-19-2009

20090204236METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR VIBRATION AVOIDANCE FOR AUTOMATED MACHINERY - A method for vibration avoidance in automated machinery produces actuator space-time contours that meet design objectives of the machinery while suppressing energy content at frequencies in the space-time contour, by concatenating multiple space-time contour segments together in such a way as to be mostly free of energy at the frequencies of interest while meeting other specified design goals. The segments used to construct these frequency-optimized-contours are a series of concatenated polynomial segments, the independent variable t being time. These segments can define the variable to be controlled (e.g. speed or distance) versus time, or define one of the controlled variable's time-derivatives (e.g., the slope of the speed vs. time, etc.). When these frequency-optimized-contours are fed as a command to a machine controller through an actuator or actuators, the energy at the frequencies of interest is low enough to avoid deleterious vibration from occurring while still meeting the machine performance objectives.08-13-2009

20100114338MULTI-GOAL PATH PLANNING OF WELDING ROBOTS WITH AUTOMATIC SEQUENCING - A system and method for multi-goal path planning of welding robots with automatic sequencing. Input parameters associated with a number of goal points are obtained. The robot is moved through the multiple goal points based on the obtained inputs. One or more allowed cyclic paths are identified based on the obtained inputs. Weights are assigned to pre-defined attributes for path segments for each of the allowed cyclic paths. A cumulative score based on the values and assigned weights of the pre-defined attributes is calculated. An optimal path for the movement of robot across the goal points is identified based on the cumulative score.05-06-2010
20110046752SYSTEM FOR OPTIMIZING POWER GENERATING UNIT - A method and apparatus for optimizing the operation of a single or multiple power generating units using advanced optimization, modeling, and control techniques. In one embodiment, a plurality of component optimization systems for optimizing power generating unit components are sequentially coordinated to allow optimized values determined by a first component optimization system to be fed forward for use as an input value to a subsequent component optimization system. A unit optimization system may be provided to determine goals and constraints for the plurality of component optimization systems in accordance with economic data. In one embodiment of the invention, a multi-unit optimization system is provided to determine goals and constraints for component optimization systems of different power generating units. Both steady state and dynamic models are used for optimization.02-24-2011
20120310377OPTIMIZED UTILITIES CONSUMPTION - A utility consumption optimization mechanism may determine an optimized period for consuming a utility based on several input parameters and several constraints. The optimization mechanism may determine an optimum consumption time and cause a device to consume the utility during that time. A schema may define various parameters that may be passed to a rate calculation mechanism, and the optimization mechanism may use the rate calculation mechanism to find an optimized consumption schedule for a particular application. The optimization mechanism may be implemented as an embedded controller in a consuming device, as a web service that may be available through an Internet connection, or in other embodiments.12-06-2012
