20080213529System and Method for Floor Covering Installation - Connectors for joining adjacent modular floor covering units. Embodiments of the connectors include a film and an adhesive layer coated on one side of the film. The connectors can have a conductive component that allows electrical continuity to be maintained between adjacent tiles. In yet another embodiment, the connectors can be equipped as radio frequency identification tags by including radio frequency transponders. To install tiles using the connectors, a first tile is placed on the floor and a connector is positioned so that the adhesive layer faces upward and does not contact the floor. The connector is typically positioned so that only a portion of the adhesive layer adheres to the underside of the tile, leaving the remainder of the connector extending from the underside of the tile. One or more tiles are then positioned adjacent the first tile so that a portion of the connector adheres to the adjacent tiles. In this way, the connectors span adjacent tile edges. The tiles are assembled on an underlying flooring surface without the need to attach them to the floor surface. Rather, the tiles are linked to each other with the connectors, so that the tiles create a floor covering that “floats” on the underlying floor surface. Additionally, the tiles need not be installed directly on the floor surface. Rather, an underlayment, such as a film or cushion or cushion composite, may be positioned on the floor surface prior to the installation of tiles.09-04-2008

20090029086MODULAR PRE-CAST COMPOSITE FLOORING ELEMENT AND FLOOR SYSTEM - A multilayer tile for flooring and the like has a cementitious top surface, a lower density intermediate layer preferably incorporating expanded polymeric beads mixed with cement, and a lower layer reinforced by tension-bearing fibers embedded therein. The interface between the top and middle insulative layers may be upwardly domed to reduce the tendency for cracks to form in the bottom surface of the top layer. Channels formed along the edges of such tiles allow insertion of heat transfer tubing to provide a hydronic floor surface. A composite tile may have cementitious top and bottom surfaces with an intermediate lower density layer there between. Such intermediate layer may be divided into two portions by a water impervious layer that serves as a binder and vapor barrier. Tile panels according to the invention are laid-out on a prepared surface on mortar pads positioned along edges and corners of the tiles, leaving a continuous under air space which may be ventilated to remove moisture, soil gases and radon gas.01-29-2009

In one implementation, a manufacturer forms a laminate panel by positioning a plurality of independent resin portions over a first resin substrate, and then by positioning a second resin substrate over the resin portions. The resin portions comprise embedded decorative elements, and at least two different resin portions comprise different types of decorative elements. The manufacturer then forms the laminate panel through the application of pressure and heat. The resulting panel has a variable interlayer formed from the independent resin portions. The laminate panel is usable as part of a panel system.05-21-2015
20160102467LINOLEUM BASED SURFACE COVERINGS AND METHODS FOR INSTALLING SAME - Described herein are methods for unidirectional installation of a surface covering comprising: providing a plurality of floor tiles, each tile comprising: a linoleum core; a top major surface; a bottom major surface; a machine direction edge extending between the top major surface and the bottom major surface running parallel to the machine direction of the tile and; an across machine direction edge extending between the top major surface and the bottom major surface running parallel to the across machine direction of the tile; wherein the machine direction of the tile has a first dimensional stability; and the across machine direction of the tile has a second dimensional stability; placing a first tile on a support base; placing a second tile on the support base adjacent the first tile; and abutting the machine direction edge of the second tile with the machine direction edge of the first tile.04-14-2016

20090136702LAMINATED ARMOR HAVING A NON-PLANAR INTERFACE DESIGN TO MITIGATE STRESS AND SHOCK WAVES - The invention is directed to an armor laminate, transparent or non-transparent, comprising a plurality of layers, said laminate having at least one non-planar interface between at least two adjacent layers laminate. In transparent armor embodiments the laminate is a transparent laminate in which each transparent layer is individually selected from the group consisting of transparent glass, glass-ceramics, polymer and crystalline materials. In non-transparent armor laminates the individual layers are typically non-transparent layers such as non-transparent glass-ceramics, aluminum, titanium, steel, and metal alloys. The non-planar interface surfaces according to the invention can be of any non-planar shape. Examples of such shapes, without limitation, include concave/convex, zigzag or sinusoidal shapes.05-28-2009
20110206888Composite Ceramic Structure and Method of Making the Same - A composite ceramic structure such as, for example, a PZT ceramic structure including, in one embodiment, a plurality of ceramic elements encapsulated in a layer of epoxy material. Each of the ceramic elements includes opposed first and second ends terminating in opposed respective top and bottom surfaces of the composite ceramic structure. A layer of conductive material on the top surface of the composite ceramic structure covers only the respective first ends of the ceramic elements to isolate the same from each other. A layer of conductive material covers the entire bottom surface of the composite ceramic structure to ground the opposed second ends of the plurality of ceramic elements to each other. A method of making the composite ceramic structure described above is also disclosed.08-25-2011
20110293874HYBRID SUBSTRATE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME - The hybrid substrate of the present invention comprises a ceramic substrate assembly composed of a plurality of ceramic substrates, insulating resin layers disposed respectively on both surfaces of the ceramic substrate assembly such that they are opposed to each other, each of the insulating resin layers being made at least of a reinforcing material and a resin, and a metal layer disposed on each of the insulating resin layers. In particular, the hybrid substrate of the present invention comprises the plurality of ceramic substrates which are in the form of a tile arrangement along the same plane positioned between the opposed insulating resin layers.12-01-2011
20140178623Flexible, Low Profile Hearth Pad - A hearth pad for live ember protecting a floor. The hearth pad comprises a backing for being placed onto the floor. The backing is made of a flexible sheet material. A plurality of tiles is disposed on the backing and adhered thereto using a flexible adhesive. The tiles are made of a rigid material. A flexible filler is disposed in gaps between adjacent tiles.06-26-2014
20140272242Pre-Made Panel for Tiled Walls - A Pre-Made Panel of Tiles making tile wall installations fast and easy. The Pre-Made Panel of Tiles can be installed by installers without tile expertise. The pre-designed tile panels make for easier selections for the consumers in that they can see them already set and the combinations of tiles and accents put together to create a pre-designed layout.09-18-2014

20080199648Laminated furniture component and method - Decorative wooden laminated panels are made from barrel staves previously forming parts of barrels used to age wine and other alcoholic beverages, each stave having inner and outer segments, with the inner segment being different in appearance from the outer due to penetration of alcoholic beverage components. The sides of said staves are first trimmed so that the sides are straight and parallel, and the staves are then cut into a plurality of strips. The strips are then formed into a panel with the inner surface of each strip being adjacent the outer surface of an adjacent strip, providing a decorative pattern of alternating contrasting stripes.08-21-2008
20120015130CROSS-CUT BLUE BLOCK FLOORING - A wood flooring made from beetle-kill pine trees comprising: a plurality of cross cut wood planks, where said wood portions are cut from beetle-kill pine trees, where said wood planks are arranged over a floor surface. The plurality of cross cut wood planks may include a set of horizontal planks; and a set of vertical planks wherein a plurality of sets of horizontal planks and a plurality of sets of vertical planks are arranged in an alternating fashion to completely cover a floor. The plurality of cross cut wood planks creates a uniquely blue colored floor surface due to beetle kill pine tree.01-19-2012
