20120093614PIPE HANDLING SYSTEM AND METHOD - A racking assembly for receiving and storing at least one pipe. The racking assembly comprises a set back assembly including a selectively rotatable member having a plurality of radial slots sized for receiving a portion of the pipe(s) in sliding engagement, and a base for supporting the pipe(s). The base is coupled to the selectively rotatable member so as to permit mutual rotation. A barrier is located about a peripheral edge of the base, such that the setback assembly rotates relative to the barrier. The barrier is arranged to prevent the pipe(s) from moving radially from the base. The barrier has a gap sized to permit selective lateral movement of the pipe(s). Mutual rotation of the selectively rotatable member and the base permit alignment of the gap and a selected slot of the selectively rotatable member, and thus permits the pipe stands to be moved laterally into the setback assembly.04-19-2012
20140186143PIPE HANDLING DEVICE - A pipe handling system reduces the amount of physical effort required for an operator to transfer steel rotary drilling pipe sections from a storage location to and from a rotary drive unit. The system utilizes an indexing arm which removes or adds the pipe sections from the storage location, placing them in the correct position to be attached to or removed from the rotary drive unit. The index arm, unlike other systems, can remove individual pipe sections to and from the storage location directly to the rotary drive unit's centerline of drilling position. This reduces both the number of physical moves required to complete the task and the amount of weight being transferred. The indexing arm is able to lift a pipe section from the storage location and place it below the rotary drive unit's centerline, then lower away from it without additional movement of the rotary drive unit itself.07-03-2014
20160090796WELLBORE DRILLING SYSTEM - An aspect of the present invention relates to a wellbore drilling system comprising a drilling tower and a tubular racking device having at least a lower first tubular racker assembly and at least a second tubular racker assembly operable at a greater height than the first tubular racker assembly. The system further comprises one or more well center tools, each adapted for operation above the well center of the drill floor, e.g. an iron roughneck tool for making up and breaking out of threaded tubular joints. According to the present invention, the tubular racking device comprises a third tubular racker assembly which is vertically mobile and which is operable for tubular transfer between the firing line and the drilling tubulars storage rack in combination with the second tubular racker assembly, e.g. in case of failure of the first tubular racker assembly, and wherein at least one well center tool is adapted to be connected to the motion arm of the third tubular racker assembly, which well center tool is operable above the drill floor, whilst the first and second tubular racker assemblies are operable in combination for tubular transfer between the firing line and the drilling tubulars storage rack.03-31-2016

The swing arm is tiltable to allow a single section elevator, carried by the swing arm, to engage a pipe extending near the well centerline. While the pipe section is being lifted, the swing arm pivots to allow the section to assume a vertical position under the elevator. When the pipe section is being rotated to run threads to join the section to the string the swing arm can extend to accommodate thread-run dimension changes.
