20080279154 | METHOD FOR DETERMINING WHEN A COMMUNICATION DEVICE SHOULD RATE SHIFT OR ROAM IN A WIRELESS ENVIRONMENT - Methods for improving communication performance in a wireless communication system where the wireless communication system has at least one mobile wireless communication device and a plurality of transmitter/receiver sites. The transmitter/receiver sites have a geographic area, defined as a cell, within which the mobile wireless communication devices can communicate with at least one of the transmitter/receiver sites. The methods determine when the mobile wireless communication device should rate shift or roam based on connection quality measurement data or position information such as GPS. In one method, the measurement data is subjected to configurable parameters to create a functional relationship value that is recorded. The recorded functional relationship values are trended and extrapolated to determine whether a rate shift or roam should be performed. In a second method, the measurement data taken prior to a communication connection failure is stored in at least one data vector with there being at least one data vector for each rate shift and one for roam. A functional relationship utilizing current measurements, last data rate, and the respective data vectors determines whether a rate shift or roam should be performed. In a third method, the position information for the wireless communication device is compared to at least one transmitter/receiver site and a determination is made as to the optimal transmitter/receiver site for communication. | 11-13-2008 |
20100008330 | Method and System for Decoding Control Channels Using Partial Combining with Weighted SNR - A method and system for decoding SACCH control channels in GSM-based systems with partial combining using weighted SNR may comprise combining least one weighted bit of a GSM slow associated control channel (SACCH) frame with at least one weighted bit of a subsequent GSM SACCH block based on burst signal to noise ratios (SNRs) of the GSM SACCH block and the subsequent GSM SACCH block. The burst SNR may be determined from a mid-amble of the GSM SACCH block and its subsequent GSM SACCH block. The burst SNRs of the GSM SACCH block may be translated to a corresponding plurality of scaling factors. At least a first weighting factor may be determined from the corresponding plurality of scaling factors. At least one weighted bit of the GSM SACCH block is determined utilizing the determined first weighting factor. | 01-14-2010 |

The method includes generating two or more uplink carrier signals across a wireless network and generating at least one active signal set for the wireless network. The method also includes generating one or more secondary active signal sets in accordance with the two or more uplink carrier signals to facilitate communications across the wireless network. | 09-23-2010 |
20110164593 | Method for selecting base sation for handover from plurality of target base stations and device thereof - The method for selecting a base station for handover from a plurality of target base stations includes receiving, at a network element, measurement reports and loads of the plurality of target base stations, where the plurality of target base stations are within a coverage area of a mobile station. The method further includes selecting, at the network element, the base station from the plurality of target base stations for handover of the mobile station of a source base station to the selected target base station based on the measurement reports and the loads of the plurality of target base stations. | 07-07-2011 |
20110188477 | HANDOVER IN A WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORK (WLAN) - In triggering a handoff by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) from a current basic service set (BSS) in a wireless local area network (WLAN), the following are performed. A highest class of traffic service and quality of service (QoS) is determined for the highest class from a basic service set (BSS) beacon. Handoff is terminated and communication is retained with a current BSS when the signal to noise ratio (SNR) or received signal strength (RSS) is greater than a high threshold of the highest class. Other criteria are evaluated to determine whether a handoff is desired when the SNR or RSS is less than the high threshold. | 08-04-2011 |
20120026983 | MOBILE WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND METHOD OF CARRYING OUT HANDOVER IN THE SYSTEM - When a strength of an electric field for receiving wireless in downlink is equal to or smaller than a predetermined strength, the mobile communication terminal device | 02-02-2012 |
20120044911 | WIRELESS TERMINAL AND ROAMING METHOD USING THE SAME - A wireless terminal roams from a first access point to a second access point. The wireless terminal can set a predetermined time period to determine whether to roam between different access points. Upon receiving signals from the second access point, the wireless terminal decodes signals received from the first access point and the second access point to get a correct probability of each bit of the signals. The wireless terminal then calculates mean values, a variance value and a difference in the mean values of the first access point and the second access point. If the difference in the mean value exceeds a product of the variance value and a roaming weight, the wireless terminal switches the wireless terminal from the first access point to the second access point to access the network. | 02-23-2012 |
20120163345 | METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR PRIMED HANDOVER - Methods and apparatus enabling seamless vertical handover between radio networks. In one embodiment, a mobile device in communication with multiple networks, scans the networks for suitable candidate networks for handover. If the mobile device experiences signal loss below a first threshold, the mobile device primes itself for a handover. Once the signal loss drops below a second threshold, the mobile device executes the handover. The priming of the device enables very low level hardware to detect and initiate the handover (rather than higher layer software). Consequently, software applications data loss is greatly improved (i.e., reduced) during a vertical handover. | 06-28-2012 |
20160057676 | Techniques for Determining a Handoff Profile Between Telecommunications Networks - Techniques are disclosed for evaluating an ongoing VoIP call over a combination of IP data communication network connections for purposes of determining when to hand it off to a circuit-switched cellular network connection. Multiple IP stream call quality values X1(i), X2(i), and Xb(i) are sampled over a time period (N) of (j) samples for an ongoing telephone call and stored. Instantaneous annoyance values a1(j), a2(j), and ab(j) for each of the stored call quality values for each of the IP streams within sampled time period (N) are calculated. Current accumulated annoyance values A1(i), A2(i), and Ab(i) are obtained by summing the instantaneous annoyance values a(j) for each IP network. The combined IP stream accumulated annoyance values Ab(i) is compared to a handoff threshold values Hb(i). A handoff of the telephone call a circuit-switched cellular communication link is initiated when the accumulated annoyance value Ab(i) is greater than the handoff threshold value Hb(i). | 02-25-2016 |
