20090033060 | Converter Dolly Backup Device - A backup device for limiting the rotation of converter dollies about a trailer hitch is presented. A dolly mounted, laterally extending moveable bar is selectively pressed against the vertical members of the trailer's underride guard in order to prevent rotation of the dolly relative to the trailer. The bar is retracted from the trailer to allow significant rotation of the dolly during normal forward operation. The backup device is operable with many makes and models of trailers because the laterally extending bar provides a large area that the trailer underride guard may contact. In addition to being operable with many models of trailers, the present invention does not require specific features to be added onto a trailer pulling the converter dolly. Additionally, the large contact area of the laterally extending bar allows the device to function with dollies that are significantly rotated about a trailer hitch. The backup device is also robust, aerodynamic, and self contained. Although manual operation of the device is possible, by connecting the device to the pressurized trailer brake line, the electrical circuitry of the trailer, or other means, the backup device may be operated from within the tractor cab. | 02-05-2009 |
20090250900 | HITCH SYSTEM FOR USE WITH A BALL HITCH AND METHODS THEREFORE - A hitch system for interconnecting a trailer to a tow vehicle, wherein the tow vehicle includes a hitch ball centered about a medial axis. The hitch system includes an elongate extension coupling having a proximal end portion rotatably mountable to the trailer and extending toward a distal end portion that is movably mountable to the hitch ball, and an anti-yaw mounting assembly for interfacing the extension coupling to the hitch ball such that the distal end portion is restricted from rotating about the medial axis. | 10-08-2009 |
20100025963 | Device for swivel joint coupling, particularly for semi-trailers - The invention relates to a device for the active damping of swivel joint couplings ( | 02-04-2010 |
20110187079 | Protective safety cover for the pin box and the king pin of a fifth wheel type trailer - A protective safety cover for fifth wheel pin has a main panel having at least one edge, and an opening adapted to receive the king pin of the trailer therethrough; a perimeter wall extending perpendicularly to the at least one edge of the main panel; and a retainer member connected to the main panel and adapted to securely and removably attach the safety cover to the goose neck of the trailer and around the king pin, to thereby surround the king pin and protect a person from accidentally hitting the king pin. | 08-04-2011 |
20130113181 | REMOVABLE SECURING CHAIN ATTACHMENT ASSEMBLY - A securing chain attachment assembly is shown and described. The securing chain attachment assembly may include an attachment body selectively and rotatably securable to a towing vehicle, the attachment body rotatable along a first plane. The securing chain attachment assembly may also include a securement member attached to the attachment body, the securement member capable of having selectively secured thereto a securement chain, where the chain attachment member is pivotal along a second plane, the second plane generally parallel to the first plane. | 05-09-2013 |
20140300081 | UNIVERSAL FIT FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER SAFETY DEVICE - A trailer safety device is provided having two attachment legs that are mounted to frame rails of a towing vehicle. The attachment legs are mounted behind a hitch using U-bolts. The legs continue rearward of the vehicle and meet to form a catch. Failure of the hitch causes a trailer kingpin to become disengaged from the towing vehicle and travel rearward. Rearward travel of the trailer will cause the kingpin to become ensnared on the catch. | 10-09-2014 |
20150008656 | FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER SAFETY DEVICE - A safety device for use with a fifth wheel trailer hitch. The safety device is mounted to a first and second rail, these rails secure both the fifth wheel hitch and the safety device to the frame of a vehicle. The safety device is generally U-shaped and extends rearwardly of the fifth wheel hitch to a catch. The catch is defined as the base of the āUā and serves to catch the king pin of a trailer in case the king pin is loosed from the fifth wheel hitch. | 01-08-2015 |
20150343865 | Safety Enhanced Turntable or Fifth Wheel for Coupling a Semi-Trailer to a Prime Mover - A method for assisting in the coupling of a semi-trailer to a turntable of a prime mover includes remotely monitoring sensors about the turntable to make a number of determinations. These include that the semitrailer is suitably close to the turntable for correct coupling. That a locking member, e.g. a kingpin, of the semitrailer is correctly positioned relative to the turntable for proper coupling. That a kingpin locking mechanism of the turntable is in a locked configuration. The result of the determinations is indicated to an operator of the prime mover. | 12-03-2015 |
20160059649 | Anti-Release Trailer Connection - A system configured for use with a vehicle includes a trailer connection mechanism configured to be mounted on the vehicle and including a release actuator configured to release the connection between the trailer connection mechanism and a trailer, a release assembly connected to the release actuator and configured to cause the release actuator to release the connection between the trailer connection mechanism and the trailer upon receiving user input, and an anti-release mechanism connected to the trailer connection mechanism. The anti-release mechanism is configured to detect statuses of a transmission and a brake system of the vehicle, and to selectively permit or prevent operation of the release actuator to release the connection between the trailer connection mechanism and the trailer based on the status of at least one of the brake system and the transmission. | 03-03-2016 |
