20110017969 | Handrail assembly and method - This invention relates to a handrail assembly that can be installed on any wall. The assembly consists of a handrail and a bracket. The bracket can be twist-locked inside the handrail at any point in the handrail because the handrail has a continuous T-shaped channel at the bottom. The T-shaped channel's bottom portion is narrower than the upper portion. The bracket has a head that is as wide as the T-shaped channel's bottom portion and as long as the T-shaped channel's upper portion. The head has one curved corner to facilitate turning and teeth to bite into the upper portion of the channel's wall. The head is lifted through the bottom portion into the upper portion of the channel, the bracket is rotated a quarter turn, and the bracket becomes immobilized. The head of the bracket acts as a cam. Union joints can join multiple lengths of handrails. | 01-27-2011 |
20130299762 | Removable Handrail Assistance Device - A removable handrail assistance device includes a bracket and a handle extension. The bracket may be affixed to a wall or other essentially immobile structure. The handle may be easily inserted into, or removed from, the bracket. The inserted handle extension is capable of supporting a user who holds onto the handle for support while, for example, climbing up or down one or more stairs. | 11-14-2013 |
20140124724 | HANDICAP HANDRAIL SYSTEM - Handrails provide for increased accessibility to a restroom stall, permitting a user to apply weight to the handrail. A retrofitable handrail includes an attachment member connecting the retrofitable handrail to a top of a partition wall of the restroom stall, a support member connected to the attachment member, and a handrail member connected to the support member. | 05-08-2014 |
20140264221 | HANDRAIL APPARATUS FOR USE WITH VEHICLES - A handrail apparatus and method for use with vehicles are disclosed. An apparatus in accordance with the teachings of this disclosure includes a first coupling plate to be coupled to a monument of a vehicle, a second coupling plate to be coupled to the monument of the vehicle. The apparatus includes a handrail coupled to the first coupling plate and a support coupled to the second coupling plate and the handrail. The handrail is movable between a stowed position and a deployed position. | 09-18-2014 |
20140374681 | Stairway Assist Apparatus - This apparatus helps mobility impaired individuals to walk up and down stairs and can reduce the incidence of stairway falls. A low-friction, high strength track is attached to a wall or banisters, running parallel to the rise of the stairs. A perpendicular cross rail assembly serves as a grip and a barrier to prevent falling. The cross rail slides along the track on a low-friction carriage. The user moves the cross rail up or down along the stairway one full step at a time. The cross rail locks into a fixed stopping position for travel to the next step. The fixed positions are adjustable. A counterweight reduces the force required for users to move the cross rail up or down stairs. A braking system is in place to lock the cross rail if a user falls. | 12-25-2014 |
20150021536 | Removable Reversible Handrail Assistance Device - A removable handrail assistance device includes a bracket and a handle extension. The bracket may be affixed to a wall or other essentially immobile structure. The handle may be easily inserted into, or removed from, the bracket. The inserted handle extension is capable of supporting a user who holds onto the handle for support while, for example, climbing up or down one or more stairs. The bracket may be reversible, thereby allowing the handle to point in an opposite direction when inserted. | 01-22-2015 |
20150102278 | Handrail Attachment - A handrail system includes an elongated rail member; a plurality of attachment elements slidably carried on a back side of the elongated rail member; a plurality of brackets; and a plurality of pins wherein each pin is engageable through a distal end portion of a bracket to fix the attachment element to the bracket. According to the system, the brackets can be pre-mounted at spaced-apart positions onto a wall using fasteners, and then the rail member, with the carried attachment elements, can be mounted to the brackets by slidably adjusting the attachment elements along the rail member to register with the corresponding brackets. A pin is used at each attachment element/bracket pair to fix the attachment elements to the brackets and thus the rail member to the wall. | 04-16-2015 |
