20080277195Engine and technique for generating an acoustic signal - A device for generating an acoustic signal in a fluid includes an engine operable to repeat a thermodynamic process to vibrate a membrane of the engine to generate an acoustic signal having more than one period. The thermodynamic process includes heating mass inside a chamber of an engine to generate pressure inside the chamber; in response to generating the pressure, moving in a first direction a portion of a membrane of the engine; removing mass from inside the chamber to decrease the pressure inside the chamber; and in response to decreasing the pressure inside the chamber, moving the membrane portion in a second direction. Because the engine repeats the thermodynamic process, the engine can generate and sustain an acoustic signal for a significant amount of time. In addition, because the heat in the engine's chamber is generated by a chemical reaction, the engine may quickly generate a significant amount of pressure inside the chamber to quickly accelerate the membrane, and thus generate a powerful acoustic signal. Furthermore, various properties of the membrane and/or the thermodynamic process may be modified to tune the acoustic signal to a desired frequency and/or amplitude. Thus, the engine may be effectively used to generate acoustic signals for a number of different purposes, such detecting and ranging objects in a region, and in a number of different marine environments, such as a littoral environment that contains a large amount of noise, or a deep sea environment at high water pressure.11-13-2008

20160119717SUSPENSION FOR ACOUSTIC DEVICE - An acoustic device includes a diaphragm, a frame, and a suspension element that couples the diaphragm to the frame such that the diaphragm is movable in a reciprocating manner relative to the frame. The suspension element includes a first surround element and a second surround element that have respective inner landings between which a region proximal to an outer edge of the diaphragm is disposed. The inner landings are mechanically coupled by an adhesive material disposed along an inner periphery of the suspension element. The adhesive material has a viscoelastic response that increases stiffness as frequency increases, resulting in a shift of a first breakup mode of the acoustic device from a first frequency to a second, higher frequency.04-28-2016

20130056297DIAPHRAGM OF MEMS ELECTROACOUSTIC TRANSDUCER - A diaphragm of an MEMS electroacoustic transducer including a first axis-symmetrical pattern layer is provided. Because the layout of the first axis-symmetrical pattern layer can match the pattern of the sound wave, the vibration uniformity of the diaphragm can be improved.03-07-2013
20150341725ELECTROACOUSTIC TRANSDUCER - An electroacoustic transducer includes a diaphragm including: a wing-pair portion; and a cone portion. The wing-pair portion includes a pair of convex surfaces having respectively convex surfaces of a pair of longitudinal split tubular members. A valley is formed between one side portions of the pair of convex surfaces. The cone portion surrounds an outer peripheral portion of the wing-pair portion and extends in a conical shape. The electroacoustic transducer further includes: a converter configured to convert between a vibration of the diaphragm in a depth direction of the valley and an electric signal corresponding to the vibration; and a supporter supporting an outer peripheral portion of the cone portion to allow the diaphragm to vibrate in a direction of the vibration.11-26-2015
20160050496DIAPHRAGM HAVING IMPROVED SURROUND STRUCTURE - A diaphragm is formed of a central portion and a surround encircling and connected with the central portion. The surround is provided with an arc-shaped section and includes a concavity. An imaginary datum plane is defined by an external edge of the concavity. In sectional view, two ends of an external side of the surround extend away from the datum plane to intersect with each other to define an imaginary end point. The surround further includes an annular flexible portion located between the end point and the datum plane. In light of the structure disclosed above, the diaphragm can adjust the rigidity of the surround by means of the annular flexible portion to make the displacement amount of the central portion consistent with the rigidity of the diaphragm, so the speaker can output the same acoustic pressure to improve the acoustic distortion and noise that may occur potentially.02-18-2016
