20110056678Reduced Wear Position Indicating Subterranean Tool - A positioning tool engages a profile with retaining members such as dogs so that a pulling force can be applied for a predetermined time as a signal that the tool is at the proper location. The time delay is a fluid system that drives fluid through a narrow restriction. The restriction is variable to allow unloading of the resistance from the fluid system while the dogs are still adequately supported. As a result the dogs are released from the profile without regional overstressing. A lock can prevent the tool from resetting to limit its use to locating at a single location. The lock holds the hydraulic system in a defeated position so that even if the dogs engage another profile when locked they will immediately exit that profile.03-10-2011
20130048273Resettable Lock for a Subterranean Tool - A lock can hold a movable member in position to a stationary member for holding the set position of the tool while being configured to release and still be capable of being reset in the same trip to lock a set position of the tool in the same or a new location.02-28-2013
20130175027HIGH PRESSURE LOCK ASSEMBLY - A lock assembly including a mandrel having one or more windows arranged alternatingly with one or more struts. One or more dogs are included corresponding to the one or more windows and are radially extendable therethrough. A member is operatively arranged for radially extending each of the one or more dogs. Each of the one or more dogs is operatively coupled between the member and the mandrel when fully radially extended by the member for bypassing loading in the one or more struts during loading of the assembly. A method of locking an assembly is also included.07-11-2013
20140069634METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SECURING AND USING HYRDAJETTING TOOLS - A method and apparatus for securing and using hydrajetting tools within a borehole is described. The apparatus includes a housing that defines an inner bore. A flow limiting member may be disposed within the inner bore. The flow limiting member may include a first a first jet in fluid communication with the top of the housing, a first chamber positioned below and in fluid communication with the first jet, and a first cavity aligned with the first jet and in fluid communication with the chamber. A groove may be disposed on an outer surface of the housing, with an anchor assembly that is disposed around the housing and axially slidable and securable within the groove.03-13-2014
20140144619Resettable Selective Locking Device - A lock system works in combination with a mandrel to allow selective operation and disabling of a downhole tool. In the specific situation of a Smart Collet® the tool is locked from being able to find support when engaged to a mating profile as the tool is moved between landing locations. A lower housing features an external dog that in response to rotation takes with it a collet ring with circumferentially oriented fingers. An outer housing cams the collet heads into a respective groove in the mandrel. Reversal of such relative rotation between the upper and lower housings allows the collet heads to spring out of the mandrel groove for the unlocked position. The lock is adapted for use in a variety of tools. The rotation to unlock and then lock is accomplished by dog interaction with shaped internal profiles in a surrounding tubular assembly at strategic locations where needed.05-29-2014
20140332205Anchor Slip and Seal Locking Mechanism - A test packer is lowered to a set liner hanger in a locked position that prevents the seal and slips from setting during running in. A first ball is dropped to shift a sleeve to release the grip of dogs to a groove on an outer housing. Setting down weight sets the test packer seal and sets the slips. After the casing integrity pressure test is done the test packer is lifted to again position the groove in the outer housing by the dogs. A second ball lands on the same seat now enlarged due to earlier movement and breaks a retainer on a locking sleeve. A spring return or continued downhole motion of the locking sleeve locks the packer in the run in position. Subsequent rotation and circulation can take place as completion fluid is circulated in. A circulation port above the packer can be opened optionally for circulation or reversing above the test packer.11-13-2014
20150021012Method and Apparatus for Subterranean Tool Actuation Using Stored Torsional Spring Energy - A coiled spring is extended axially and its outside diameter is reduced for the run in position of a tool preferably a liner hanger. Upon release of the stored potential energy the diameter of the spring grows so that contact of the surrounding tubular is made by the spring to at least in part support one string to another. Alternatively, the rotational force from unwinding the spring can drive a slip or other support member radially outwardly into contact with the surrounding tubular and if desired lock the gripping position between the tubulars. Unexpended potential energy of the unwinding spring can also be a residual force to hold the expanded spring to the surrounding tubular. The axial shrinkage of the coiled spring can also be deployed in actuation of the slip in conjunction with rotational movement to advance the slip radially for a grip of the surrounding tubular.01-22-2015
20150300098ROTARY LOCKING SUB FOR ANGULAR ALIGNMENT OF DOWNHOLE SENSORS WITH HIGH SIDE IN DIRECTIONAL DRILLING - Adjustment of the angle of a bent sub or other steering feature in a drill string relative to a reference angle of a downhole sensor is facilitated by a rotatable coupling between the bent sub and the sensor. The rotatable coupling may be rotated to align the high side with a reference indicium and locked at the set angle. Rows of ceramic balls retained in circumferential channels may be provided to permit rotation while carrying tensile and compressional forces. Calibration of the sensor is facilitated and opportunities for certain measurement errors are eliminated. An embodiment provides a mechanism for locking the rotatable coupling at a desired angle. The embodiment comprises a ring with teeth that engage a downhole portion of the coupling and depressions that engage an uphole portion of the coupling.10-22-2015
