20080216777 | Engine cooling system with overload handling capability - A cooling system for an internal combustion engine incorporating a heat accumulator to temporarily store heat during peak heat loads. In automotive vehicles, the heat accumulator may store excess heat generated during vehicle acceleration or hill climbing and it may dissipate stored heat during vehicle cruise, deceleration, or engine idle. The heat accumulator contains phase change material with a solid-to-liquid transition temperature higher than the normal operating temperature of the cooling system. The invention enables reducing the size and weight of engine cooling system without compromising its performance. This is particularly important for improving fuel economy and reduction of emission in automotive vehicles. In addition, the invention enables reducing the coolant inventory in the system thereby allowing for faster engine warm-up and reduced emissions of harmful pollutants during a cold engine start. The invention may be also used for thermal management of engine oil, transmission fluid, or hydraulic fluid. | 09-11-2008 |

20110023797 | COOLING SYSTEM - The disclosure relates to an internal combustion engine with a cooling circuit having a water jacket portion in the cylinder block and a water jacket portion in the cylinder head which has an intake portion and an exhaust portion. Flow from the intake and exhaust portions mix in an outlet housing which has a cylinder head outlet thermostat. A coolant pump provides flow to a first branch to the exhaust portion and a second branch to the water jacket portion in the cylinder block. A block thermostat is located in the second branch downstream of the coolant pump and upstream of the water jacket portion in the cylinder block. The intake portion of the water jacket portion in the cylinder head is fluidly coupled to the water jacket portion in the cylinder block. | 02-03-2011 |
20140290600 | COOLANT CIRCULATION SYSTEM FOR ENGINE - A coolant circulation system for an engine efficiently cools the engine to prevent the capacity of an electronic water pump from being excessively increased. The system includes: a water pump; a cylinder block; a cylinder head; an intake block water jacket formed on one side of the cylinder block; an exhaust block water jacket formed on another side of the cylinder block; an intake side chamber provided on one surface of the cylinder block in a length direction of the engine about which a plurality of cylinders are arranged in parallel; an exhaust side chamber provided on the other surface of the cylinder block; and a head water jacket formed in the cylinder head to allow the intake block water jacket and the exhaust block water jacket to communicate with each other and the intake side chamber and the exhaust side chamber to communicate with each other. | 10-02-2014 |
20150083058 | CYLINDER HEAD - A cylinder head having a thread for an ignition device, in particular a spark plug, and a cooling circuit having at least one cooling cavity, wherein the cylinder head can be cooled in operation by conveying cooling medium through the cooling circuit, wherein provided in the cooling circuit is a further cooling cavity having an inside wall and an inlet opening disposed substantially in opposite relationship to the inside wall, and a cooling medium flow entering through the inlet opening can be so deflected by the inside wall that the cooling medium flow passes at least partially around the thread. | 03-26-2015 |
