20100263491 | Method of Making a Composite Utility Blade - A composite utility knife blade and method of making such a blade involves butt joining a tool steel wire to a front edge of an alloy steel backing strip. The wire is electron beam welded to the backing strip to form a composite strip defining a first metal portion formed by the alloy steel backing strip, a second metal portion formed by the tool steel wire, and a weld region joining the first and second metal portions. The composite strip is then annealed, and the annealed strip is straightened to eliminate any camber therein. The annealed composite strip is then hardened such that the first metal portion defines a surface hardness within the range of approximately 38 Rc to approximately 52 Rc, and the second metal portion defines a surface hardness within the range of approximately 60 Rc to approximately 57 Rc. | 10-21-2010 |

20150343517 | Blade Manufacturing Methods and Blanks of Blades - Counter-reliefs of faces of blanks of blades are machined in flat stock sheets of steel with a precision provided by the machining and without producing thermal damage (i.e., overheating) and/or chatter marks on the surface of the blanks of the blades. The blanks of the blades are separated from the flat stock sheet of steel and quickly and easily finished to a quality equal to a quality of handmade cottage industry blades. | 12-03-2015 |
20160039129 | Plastic Cutlery and Tableware with Interchangeable Elements - Plastic cutlery and tableware made in at least two parts joinable to form a unitary utensil, serving piece, beverage container or non-food contacting tableware in which the two parts are made of different materials. The materials of the two parts differ in at least one of the following: color, type of plastic, grade of plastic, source of plastic, and additives such as the presence of an anti-microbial agent, transparency, or reflectivity. Food-grade resins, for example, can be used for the heads of cutlery and recycled resins are used for the handles. Heads can be separately metalized and then joined to non-metalized handles. Handles may be made to fit to different types of heads. The two parts of the cutlery may be joined by inserting a tang extending from one into a cavity formed in the other. 20100005929 | MULTIPLE-ANGLE SCISSOR BLADE - The invention is directed to a pair of laparoscopic scissors, comprising a pair of blades connected at a pivot, each of the blades having a length, a tip portion, a body portion, an outer surface, an inner surface and a cutting edge, the cutting edge forming an angle with the outer surface along the length of the blade such that tension during a cutting operation at the tip portion is about the same as tension at the body portion during the cutting operation. The angle formed may be greater at the tip portion which continuously decreases over the length of the blade. The tip portion may have a first body thickness and the body portion may have a second body thickness different from the first body thickness. During the cutting operation, the blades progressively move over each other to provide a point contact along the cutting edges. The blades may be thickened in a number of locations and combinations including: (1) one blade could be thicker than the other to force the opposing blade to flex; (2) both blades could be thicker at the body portions to give more strength when cutting staples; (3) each blade could be thickened on one side or the other to stiffen certain locations; and (4) the tips of each blade could be thicker than the body portions to provide increased tension at the tips. In another aspect of the invention, a process of manufacturing the pair of scissors of the invention is disclosed, comprising the steps of form grinding the blades into a desired shape from a pre-hardened block of material, and sharpening the cutting edges of the blades. The blades may also be formed through other processes including wire EDM, laser cutting, waterjet cutting, machining, cast or metal injection molding, and other independent profile manufacturing processes. The manufacturing process of the invention is beneficial in that each profile can be accurately controlled, and the parts will be exact every time. | 01-14-2010 |
