20090019914Flowmeter Calibration System and Operational Method - Disclosed is a bi-directional piston displacement type volumetric fluid flow rate delivery and metering system (calibration standard) and operational method for calibration of fluid flowmeters. The present invention provides reduced uncertainty of delivered volumetric fluid flow rate at meters under test relative to the uncertainty of volumetric fluid flow rate at meters under test provided by prior art bi-directional piston displacement type volumetric fluid flow rate standards given the same nominal cylinder diameters and working fluid and equal dimensional, timing and temperature measurement uncertainties by employing a plurality of metering pistons and cylinders to minimize the connecting volume piping between the metering piston cylinder outlet and meters under test, providing open access to one side of each metering piston to accomplish installation of temperature probes through the pistons into the working fluid and by operational method which minimizes the connecting volume to standard volume ratio.01-22-2009

Motive means supported on a frame mounted on the lower framework draws the rod toward the fluid receiving end of the cylinder. Upon such movement of the rod, a poppet valve formed as part of the piston opens to permit fluid flow through the piston. A clutch serving as part of the motive means permits travel of the piston from the fluid receiving end to the fluid discharging end of the cylinder and serve the flow rate measuring function of the prover. An upper framework is attached to the lower framework through a plurality of stanchions. Various I-beams formed as part of the upper framework enhance rigidity to the combination of lower framework and upper framework. 20130000379HYDRAULIC BRAKE CALIPER PISTON INSERTION FORCE GAUGE TOOL - A piston insertion force gauge tool for measuring the insertion force of a piston into a bore of a brake caliper includes a housing assembly having an inner housing member at least partially disposed in an outer housing member, where the housing members are generally coaxial and selectively displaceable along the axis. First and second end members form the ends of the gauge tool. The inner housing member is received into the outer housing member at a second open end. A measuring device extends from the second end member through a first open end and to the first end member. The measuring device displaces the inner housing member with respect to the outer housing member to indicate the insertion force imparted on the piston.01-03-2013
20130091923PISTON PROVER - A piston prover comprises a measurement cylinder; a hydraulic cylinder coupled with a downstream end of the measurement cylinder; a measuring piston that moves a predetermined distance through the measurement cylinder during a measurement due to a fluid flow to eject a reference volume of fluid; and a piston rod that is movably in the hydraulic cylinder, wherein the measuring piston and the piston rod are separately constructed, When returning the measuring piston to a predetermined upstream measurement standby position, the piston rod moves the measuring piston to set the measuring piston at the predetermined measurement standby position, and thereafter only the piston rod is moved from upstream to downstream and is accommodated in the hydraulic cylinder.04-18-2013

20140318211POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT CALIBRATION TOOL FOR CALIBRATING MASS FLOW CONTROLLERS IN A PRINTING APPARATUS - A positive displacement calibration tool useful for simultaneously calibrating a plurality of flow meters, the tool comprising: a frame; a housing block having a plurality of fluid chambers therein, each fluid chamber being connectible to a respective liquid flow line, each chamber having an axis therethrough, the axis of each fluid chamber being aligned within a predetermined close tolerance with the axis of each of the other fluid chambers formed in the block; a piston mounted within the block for movement within each fluid chamber; and an actuator connected to all of the pistons whereby the actuator is operative to displace each piston through its associated chamber to cause a precisely dispensed predetermined flow rate of a liquid to pass simultaneously from each chamber.10-30-2014
20140331738OPTICAL SWITCH SYSTEM FOR A PROVER - Apparatus for flow prover precisely measures the volume and the flow rate of a fluid through a cylinder. The prover includes a piston within a cylinder supporting a shaft extending longitudinally through the cylinder, which cylinder receives and discharges the fluid by translation of the piston from the fluid receiving end to the fluid discharging end. Motive means draws the shaft and piston toward the fluid receiving end of the cylinder. Travel of the piston in the direction from the fluid receiving end to the fluid discharging end of the cylinder is sensed at discrete locations to provide an indication of the volume of fluid therebetween and the related flow rate. Each of a plurality of emitter/detector modules provides piston position sensing signals reflective of the volume and rate of fluid flowing through the cylinder. A switch bar rigidly and permanently fixes the position of the emitter/detector modules with respect to the piston and with respect to one another. An immovable gate or aperture regulates the cross-section of the light beam striking the detector and ensures that the measured volume is repeatable and cannot be altered due to external factors such as in-field use, service, maintenance on components or the like.11-13-2014

20120260717SMALL VOLUME PROVER APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING VARIABLE VOLUME CALIBRATION - A small volume prover (SVP) apparatus and method for providing variable volume calibration. The apparatus includes a precision bore cylinder and a piston configured with a valve arrangement in order to permit fluid to pass through an annular passage when the piston is traveling from one position to an opposite position. A position sensor and a pair of optical slot detectors can be integrated in association with the piston for continuously sensing an accurate position and stroke of the piston. The position sensor verifies the optical slot detectors at every run and provides calibration of flexible volumes as the fluid travels via the annular passage. The position sensor also checks the correct return of the piston after the flow stroke and detects the stuck mechanics. Such small volume prover apparatus associated with the position sensor can be employed for precise and fast position sensing of the piston and variable volume calibration of a fluid flow sensor.10-18-2012
