20140347431 | MEDIA DETECTION APPARATUS AND METHOD - An apparatus and method for automatically calibrating a media sensor configured to detect advancing print media in a printing device. In some embodiments, the apparatus selects a first light intensity level and a second light intensity level greater than the first light intensity level. A light source unit, such as a light emitting diode or laser diode is activated to emit light at the second light intensity level. The light passes though print media, for example, a roll of self-adhesive labels, that is advanced along a print path of the printing device. The amount of light transmitted through the print media is measured as the print media advances. If the measured light increases, the light source unit is reactivated to emit light at the first light intensity level. In some embodiments, the apparatus identifies whether print media has changed or an out-of-stock condition exists. | 11-27-2014 |
20140216978 | PRESCRIPTION PHOTO IDENTIFICATION LABELS - A tamper-resistant container and tamper resistant label is disclosed. The tamper resistant label includes front, top, and back portions. The front portion includes a front top, a front bottom having a first edge in communication with a first edge of the front top. A breakable seal is disposed between the front top and front bottom. The top portion has a first edge in communication with a second edge of the front top. The back portion is in communication with the top portion and includes a back top having a first edge in communication with a second edge of the top portion, a back bottom having a first edge in communication with a second edge of the back top. A second breakable seal is disposed between the back top and the back bottom. The tamper-resistant label may include one or more indicia relating to the contents of the tamper-resistant container. | 08-07-2014 |
20140160219 | THERMAL PRINTER WITH SINGLE LATCH, ADJUSTABLE MEDIA STORAGE AND CENTERING ASSEMBLIES AND PRINT ASSEMBLY - A direct thermal printer including a latch assembly, a media storage assembly, a media centering assembly, a print assembly, and a temperature sensing member. The latch assembly includes a single latch lever in mechanical communication with latch tabs disposed in the cover of the printer that are received by openings in the base of the printer to engage and disengage the cover from the base. The media storage assembly includes media guides with removable tabs having more than one available position to provide storage of different size media. The media centering assembly includes pulley assemblies that bias the media guides towards each other to secure media between the media guides. The print assembly includes a platen disposed in the base of the printer having cams on each end that are rotatable and positioned to adjust printing characteristic of a printhead disposed in the cover. | 06-12-2014 |
20130125771 | PLATEN ROLLER ASSEMBLIES FOR PRINTER AND METHODS OF REMOVAL THEREFROM - A platen roller assembly for a printer includes a platen roller, a retaining clip, a plurality of bearings, and a pulley assembly. The platen roller defines a longitudinal axis. The retaining clip mounts to a support body of the printer and is positioned to retain the platen roller relative to the support body. The plurality of bearings is operably coupled to the platen roller. Each of the bearings permits rotational movement of the platen roller about the longitudinal axis thereof. The pulley assembly is mounted to the support body and is operably associated with one or more of the bearings. The pulley assembly includes a pulley and a belt. The belt is operably coupled to the pulley such that the platen roller rotates in response to rotational movement of the belt. The platen roller may be selectively coupled and uncoupled to/from the support body independent of the pulley assembly. | 05-23-2013 |
20130021164 | DOCKING CRADLE INCLUDING A RELEASABLE LATCHING MECHANISM FOR ENGAGING A HANDHELD DEVICE THEREIN - A latching mechanism includes a housing defining a slot for receiving a device therein. The housing includes first and second slide blocks disposed on either side of the slot. Each slide block is movable between a retracted position, wherein a pin thereof is disposed within the housing, and an extended position, wherein the pin extends into the slot to engage the device therein. A U-shaped member is disposed within the housing and includes first and second legs interconnected by a base. The U-shaped member is movable relative to the housing between an unlocked position, wherein the legs retain the slide blocks in the retracted position, a locked position, wherein the slide blocks are permitted to move to the extended position, and an eject position, wherein the legs retain the slide blocks in the retracted position and wherein the base extends into the slot to eject the handheld device. | 01-24-2013 |
20120155946 | COMPACT PRINTER WITH PRINT FRAME INTERLOCK - A compact printer having improved operational features. The printer includes an articulating print frame assembly coupled to a top cover that is adapted to rotate out of the top cover to an open position and to rotate into the top cover to a closed position. When the print frame is in an open position, the top cover is prevented from rotating toward the bottom housing to a closed position. The print frame includes a media guide bar that facilitates loading of ribbon and media. The disclosed printer also includes a fixed or adjustable media sensor, and is configurable to accommodate an internal supply of web (roll) media or an external supply of fanfold media. a bottom housing having a top cover coupled thereto. | 06-21-2012 |
20110200375 | PORTABLE PRINTER WITH ASYMMETRICALLY-DAMPED MEDIA CENTERING - A portable printer having improved ergonomic and operational characteristics. The printer includes an asymmetrically-damped media centering mechanism having first and second media support members moveable along a common longitudinal axis and configured to grasp roll media. The media support members are coupled to a reciprocal movement mechanism configured to translate a longitudinal movement of the first media support member into a corresponding opposite longitudinal movement of the second media support member. A pivoting arm is coupled to the reciprocal movement mechanism. The pivoting arm pivots to a first position when the first and second media support members are moved closer to each other, which causes a damping gear to engage the reciprocal movement mechanism, thereby damping the grasping motion of the media support members and providing an improved user experience. The printer facilitates one-handed operation, including one-handed loading and unloading of media, enabling its use in a variety of environments. | 08-18-2011 |
