Description:
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
[0001] This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 63/017,968, filed 30 Apr. 2020, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The present invention relates to sweatbands, specifically an attachable, removable, and disposable sweatband strip made of absorbent and antibacterial material. The sweatband strip is designed to attach directly to and be removable from any body part without needing to wrap around any body part.
[0003] There are several key limitations with existing sweat absorbing or deflecting products. Existing sweatbands typically need to be wrapped around a body part, and so are largely limited to use around the temple or around the wrist. Also, people sweat in more than those two body parts. In addition, existing sweat absorbing products have a limited capacity, which may require people that sweat profusely in those body parts to use multiple products at one time.
[0004] Furthermore, the requirement that existing sweatbands completely circumscribe a body part disadvantageously messes up the user's hair or gets in the way of apparel or accessories. Finally, the areas in direct contact with existing sweatbands can become irritated or overheated, and so if the sweatband needs to wrap completely around a body part that is just more surface area that can be afflicted.
[0005] As can be seen, there is a need for attachable, removable, and disposable sweatband strips made of absorbent and antibacterial material. The present invention is attachable, by way of an adhesive layer, to any part of the body; it adheres directly to one's selected body part without the need to be wrapped around the body part. In short, the present invention can be placed at and adhered to any part of the body to absorb and divert sweat. There is no other product that adheres directly to a body part so as to absorb sweat therefrom without having to wrap around or circumscribe that or other body parts.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006] In one aspect of the present invention, a sweatband strip that adheres directly to a body part in such a way as to absorb sweat therefrom without wrapping the sweatband strip completely around or circumscribe the body part or another body part, the sweatband strip includes the following: an absorbent layer attached to one side of a double-sided adhesive layer, wherein a perimeter of the absorbent layer circumscribes a perimeter of the double-sided adhesive layer, wherein the perimeter of the absorbent layer is one sixty-fourth of an inch to one eighth of an inch beyond the perimeter of the perimeter of the double-sided adhesive layer, wherein the perimeter of the absorbent layer extends along a longitudinal axis for one or less inches to twelve or more inches; and further including a protective backing layer removably attached to the other side of the double-sided adhesive layer, wherein the protective backing layer is coextensive with said other side of the double-sided adhesive layer, wherein the absorbent layer is polyvinyl alcohol foam, wherein the double-sided adhesive layer is medical grade.
[0007] In another aspect of the present invention, a method of absorbing or deflecting moisture from a dermal surface of a body part without circumscribing said body part, the method includes the following: attaching an absorbent layer to one side of a double-sided adhesive layer; and attaching the other side of the double-sided adhesive layer to said body part in such a way as to not circumscribe said body part, wherein a perimeter of the absorbent layer circumscribes a perimeter of the double-sided adhesive layer, wherein the perimeter of the absorbent layer is one sixty-fourth of an inch to one eighth of an inch beyond the perimeter of the perimeter of the double-sided adhesive layer, wherein the perimeter of the absorbent layer extends along a longitudinal axis for one or less inches to twelve or more inches; further including: attaching and then removing a protective backing layer to the other side of the double-sided adhesive layer; rolling the absorbent layer and the double-sided adhesive layer into a rolled form; selectively unrolling the rolled form; and selectively cutting the absorbent layer and the double-sided adhesive layer to an unrolled length.
[0008] These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0009] FIG. 1 is an elevation view of the present invention shown in use; and
[0010] FIG. 2 is an exploded view of the present invention, wherein both sides of the double-sided adhesive layer 14 are shown exploded, wherein layer a longitudinal axis runs laterally, from left to right or from right to left, on FIG. 2.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0011] The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
[0012] Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention provides a removable, attachable, and disposable sweatband strip that adheres directly to a body part so as to absorb sweat therefrom without having to wrap around or circumscribe that or other body parts.
[0013] Referring now to FIGS. 1 and 2, the present invention is a removable, attachable, and disposable sweatband strip 10. The sweatband strip 10 includes three layers: an absorbent layer 12, a double-sided adhesive layer 14, and a protective backing layer 16. The absorbent layer 12 may be composed of polyvinyl alcohol foam or other equivalent moisture-absorbing material. The adhesive layer 14 may be composed of medical grade or other sufficient adhesive designed and adapted to stay attached to the skin of a sweating human. The protective backing layer 16 may be composed of any material that will adhere to adhesive layer 14 yet allows it to peel away from adhesive layer 14 leaving adhesive layer 14 intact.
[0014] The adhesive layer 14 adheres the absorbent layer 12 to any part of the body. The absorbent layer 12 absorbs and diverts the sweat that passes onto it. The absorbent layer 12 may have a greater surface area relative to the adhesive layer 14 so that the absorbent layer 12 is able to extend beyond all edges of the adhesive layer 14 when both are operatively associated.
[0015] The attachable, removable, and disposable sweatband strip 10 may have a length ranging from one or less inches to twelve or more inches. The attachable, removable, and disposable sweatband strip 10 may come in pre-cut sizes or in rolled form, akin to a roll of tape, wherein there is no backing layer 16. In rolled form, the user may cut the attachable, removable, disposable sweatband strip 10 to length as they unroll it.
[0016] A method of using the present invention may include the following. An individual partaking in an activity in which they would sweat, such as an exercise routine or other working out, would take the attachable, removable, and disposable sweatband strip 10, remove the protective backing layer 16 over the outward-facing adhesive layer 14, and attach the exposed outward-facing adhesive layer 14 to their selected body part. The individual would then engage in the activity in which they would sweat, and at the conclusion of said activity, would remove the attachable, removable, and disposable sweatband strip 10. The individual would then dispose of the sweatband strip 10.
[0017] It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
