DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
[0012] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new striking device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
[0013] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 5, the striking assembly 10 generally comprises a track 12 that may be coupled to a vertical support surface 14. The vertical support surface 14 may be a wall or the like. The track 12 has a base portion 16 and a slide portion 18. The base portion 16 has a front surface 20 and a back surface 22. The back surface 22 may be abutted against the vertical support surface 14 such that the track 12 extends longitudinally along the vertical support surface 14.
[0014] The slide portion 18 extends away from the front surface 20. The slide portion 18 has a first lateral surface 23, a second lateral surface 24 and a forward surface 26. The forward surface 26 is recessed between the first lateral surface 23 and the second lateral surface 24 to define a pair of rails 28. Each of the rails 28 is coextensive with an associated one of the first lateral surface 23 and the second lateral surface 24.
[0015] Each of the first lateral surface 23 and the second lateral surface 24 has a groove 30 extending inwardly therein. The groove 30 on each of the first lateral surface 23 and the second lateral surface 24 extends longitudinally along the track 12. The forward surface 26 has a plurality of wells 32 extending rearwardly therein. The wells 32 are spaced apart from each other and distributed longitudinally along the track 12. The wells 32 are centrally positioned between the rails 28.
[0016] A target 34 is slidably coupled to the track 12. The target 34 is positionable at a selected point on the track 12 such that the target 34 may be struck. The target 34 comprises a clamp 36 that has a first surface 38, a second surface 40 and a top surface 42. The first surface 38 has a pair of slots 44 extending toward the second surface 40. The slots 44 are spaced apart from each other and extend longitudinally along the first surface 38.
[0017] The clamp 36 has a pair of guides 46 extending away from the first surface 38. Each the guides 46 are coextensive with an associated one of the slots 44. Each of the guides 46 has a finger 48 extending toward the associated slot 44 and the finger 48 on each of the guides 46 is spaced from the first surface 38. The clamp 36 is positioned on the slide portion 18 of the track 12 having the first surface 38 frictionally engaging the forward surface 26 of the slide portion 18. Each of the rails 28 slidably engages one of the slots 44 and the finger 48 on each of the guides 46 slidably engages an associated one of the grooves 30. Thus, the clamp 36 is slidably retained on the track 12.
[0018] The first surface 38 has a lock well 50 extending toward the second surface 24. The lock well 50 has a bounding surface 52 and the lock well 50 is centrally positioned on the first surface 38. A lock 53 is positioned within the lock well 50. The lock 53 engages a selected one of the wells 32 in the track 12 such that the clamp 36 is retained at the selected point along the track 12.
[0019] The lock 53 comprises a pin 54 that is slidably positioned within the lock well 50. A biasing member 56 is positioned between the pin 54 and the bounding surface 52 of the lock well 50. The biasing member 56 biases the pin 54 outwardly from the lock well 50 such that the pin 54 is biased to engage one of the wells 32. A button 58 is slidably positioned on the top surface 42 of the clamp 36 such that the button 58 may be manipulated. The button 58 is mechanically coupled to the pin 54 such that the button 58 urges the pin 54 outwardly from the lock well 50 when the button 58 is manipulated. Thus, the clamp 36 is slidable along the track 12.
[0020] A support 60 is coupled to the clamp 36 and the support 60 extends away from the second surface 40. The support 60 has a distal end 62 with respect to the second surface 40. The support 60 is comprised of a resiliently flexible material. A grip 64 is coupled to the distal end 62 and the grip 64 has a pair of jaws 66 extending away from the distal end 62. The jaws 66 are spaced apart from each other.
[0021] A pad 68 is provided that has a first surface 70, a second surface 72 and a peripheral edge 74 extending between the first surface 70 and the second surface 72. The pad 68 is positioned in the grip 64 such that each of the jaws 66 frictionally engages an associated one of the first surface 70 and the second surface 72 of the pad 68. A fastener 75 extends through each of the jaws 66. The fastener 75 may be manipulated such that the jaws 66 are urged toward each other. Thus, the grip 64 retains the pad 68 on the support thereby facilitating the pad 68 to be struck. The support 60 allows the pad 68 to move when the pad 68 is struck.
[0022] In use, the button 58 is manipulated and the clamp 36 is positioned at the selected point along the track 12. The button 58 is released such that the pin 54 engages the selected well 32. The pad 68 is adjusted in the grip 64 and the fastener 75 is tightened to retain the pad 68 at a selected orientation with respect to the support 60. The pad 68 is struck in the practice or martial arts or other activity involving striking.
[0023] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
[0024] Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word "comprising" is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article "a" does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
