Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] Field of the Invention
[0002] This invention relates generally to a hair brushing machine and, more particularly, to a motorized hair brushing device that employs a plurality of discrete bristle rollers.
[0003] Description of the Prior Art
[0004] Waves or 360 waves is well known hairstyle which commonly involves a significant amount of brushing of one's hair. In general, obtaining and maintaining a waves hairstyle requires repeated brushing, on frequent intervals, along with moisturizing and targeted washing and conditioning. As the operation of conventional brushes remains largely unchanged, typically requiring brushstroke after brushstroke over ones hair, a problem which still exists is that the time and effort required to obtain and maintain waves in ones hair is prohibitive for many. Thus, there remains a need for a motorized hair brush apparatus would eliminate or reduce the need for an individual to manually stroke a brush over their hair. It would be helpful if such a motorized hair brush apparatus included a plurality of discrete, motorized rotary brush members aligned to brush on a single plane. It would be additionally desirable for the rotary brush members of such a motorized hair brush apparatus to be synchronized to rotate in the same direction at the same speed.
[0005] The Applicant's invention described herein provides for a motorized hair brush apparatus adapted to allow a user to brush their hair with the equivalent of countless of brushstrokes by simply holding the device on their head or stroking it over their hair. The primary components in Applicant's motorized hair brush apparatus are a housing, a plurality of rotary brush members, and a motor. When in operation, the motorized hair brush apparatus enables the application of an equivalent of thousands of brushstrokes through a handheld electrical device. As a result, many of the limitations imposed by prior art structures are removed.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006] A motorized hair brush apparatus for providing a plurality of rotating cylinders full of brush bristles which can be employed to brush one's hair. The motorized hair brush apparatus includes a base housing defining a rigid, substantially hollow structure having a rigid top exterior surface and an open bottom from which a plurality of aligned rotary brush members extending. The base housing, shaped and sized to allow a user to hold it with one hand, additionally includes a plurality of textured sections provide an enhanced gripping surface. An internal electric motor is operatively connected to each of the brush members so as to allow mechanical energy produced by the motor to rotate each of the brush members in a brushing direction simultaneously. According, a user can either hold or stroke the motorized hair brush apparatus over their hair and the rotating brush members will execute the desired brushstrokes.
[0007] It is an object of this invention to provide a motorized hair brush apparatus which eliminates or reduces the need for an individual to manually stroke a brush over their hair.
[0008] It is another object of this invention to provide a motorized hair brush apparatus which includes a plurality of discrete, motorized rotary brush members aligned to brush on a single plane.
[0009] It is yet another object of this invention to provide a motorized hair brush apparatus with the rotary brush members synchronized to rotate in the same direction at the same speed.
[0010] These and other objects will be apparent to one of skill in the art.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0011] FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of a motorized hair brush apparatus built in accordance with the present invention.
[0012] FIG. 2 is a rear elevational view of a motorized hair brush apparatus built in accordance with the present invention.
[0013] FIG. 3 is a bottom perspective view of a motorized hair brush apparatus built in accordance with the present invention.
[0014] FIG. 4 is a side perspective view of a motorized hair brush apparatus built in accordance with the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0015] Referring now to the drawings and in particular FIGS. 1, 2, 3, and 4, a motorized hair brush apparatus 10 is shown having a base housing 11 with a plurality of aligned rotary brush members 12. The base housing 11 defines a rigid, substantially hollow structure having an arcuate exterior top surface with a plurality of textured sections 13. The base housing 11 is shaped to allow a hand of a user to extend transverse thereover to securely grasp the motorized hair brush apparatus 10. It is contemplated that the textured sections 13 provide an enhanced gripping surface so as to allow a user to maintain a more secure grip while holding the motorized hair brush apparatus 10 over their head without dropping it due to the turbulence caused the rotation of the brush members 12 over the hair of the user (as discussed below). The brush member 12 extend from the open bottom of the base housing 11.
[0016] The base housing 11 additionally includes electrical components defines as an internal electric motor for converting electricity to mechanical motion, an internal power source, and an internal electrical switch. Each of the electrical components are interconnected with each other so as to enable electricity from the power source to be selectively provided to the electric motor through the switch. The electric motor is operatively connected to each of the brush members 12 so as to allow mechanical energy produced by the motor to rotate each of the brush members 12 in a brushing direction 14 simultaneously. In this regard, the provision of electricity to the motor causes the brush members 12 to rotate in the brushing direction 14.
[0017] In the preferred embodiment, the power source defines an internal battery and the electrical switch defines a toggle switch which is operated from an external manual actuator switch 15. In such an embodiment, manually flipping the actuator switch 15 to a first position turns the motor on (the toggle switch makes the circuit between the battery and motor) and flipping it to a second position turns to motor off (the toggle switch breaks the circuit between the battery and motor).
[0018] In another embodiment, the electrical switch defines a momentary switch which must be continually actuated to make the circuit between the battery and motor. In such an embodiment, a momentary actuator as the actuator switch 15.
[0019] In one embodiment, the motor includes a locking system connected to the rotor of the motor and operative to prevent its motor's rotor/shaft from turning when power from the battery is not available. It is contemplated that in such an embodiment, the locking system is integrated with the switch and power source such that it is operative to unlock when the switch makes the circuit between the battery and motor.
[0020] It is appreciated that only the lower half of the brush members 12 extend from the bottom of the base housing 11 so as to reduce the torque on the motor when the brush members 12 are rotating over ones hair. In other embodiments, the brush members 12 may be positioned so that they extend from the bottom of the base housing 11 a defined amount between 15% and 50%. To further reduce torque, the base housing 11 may additionally include a front lip 16 which extends down to cover the front of the brush members 12.
[0021] The instant invention has been shown and described herein in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made therefrom within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
