CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
[0001] This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 62/108,889, filed Jan. 28, 2015, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The present invention relates to hairbrushes and, more particularly, to hairbrushes for detailed styling of baby hair.
[0003] A variety of hairstyles, including buns, weaves, dreadlocks, cornrolls, braids, wraps, and wigs, require a variety of tools. A person may want to have straight hair, curly hair, wavy hair, an up-do, or change the color of their hair. In order to straighten hair, curl hair, or make hair wavy, a styling tool is necessary in addition to hair products.
[0004] An up-do does not exactly require an electric tool; however, a hair tie is the main tool required and perhaps many hairpins or clips. However, just by using a hair tie and some hair products, the up-do is not necessarily finished. A few issues encountered by stylists are fly-away hairs and baby hairs around the hair line and strays throughout the hairstyle.
[0005] Edge control is another hair product that is an important aspect for black hair styling. However, when applying edge control products to the hair, the hair product may not reach every single strand of hair along the hairline in an attempt to meticulously style the hairline.
[0006] Conventional brush bristle materials are too harsh on the hair follicle, too large in nature, and do not provide the ability to deliver the desired style to edge hairs. Other hairbrush types have not stopped the improper use of a toothbrush as a hairbrush to finish any given style.
[0007] The present invention serves to establish a hairbrush that styles in the same manner as a toothbrush, and resolve the issues previously addressed.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0008] In one aspect of the present invention, an edge styling hairbrush comprises: an elongate slender handle; a brush head ranging in shapes and sizes is attached to an end of the elongate slender handle; and a plurality of spaced apart tufted bristles or bundled bristles extending from a front surface of the brush head, wherein the bristle material is selected so as to avoid irritating the skin along a user's hairline. Preferably, the bristles are comprised of nylon and/or combined with synthetic hairs, preferably Nylon 6 and Nylon 6/12.
[0009] In certain embodiments of the invention, the brush head has a generally pentagonal shape. The pentagonal shape includes a generally rectangular portion proximal to the brush handle and a generally triangular portion extending from the rectangular portion with the apex of the triangle at a distal end of the hairbrush. The tufted or bundled bristles may further comprise a first array of tufted or bundled bristles disposed in the rectangular portion and having a first length, and a second array of tufted bristles disposed in the triangular portion having a second length that is longer than the first length. In other aspects of the invention, the plurality of tufted bristles may further comprise: a plurality of transition bristles are defined intermediate the first and second array, the transition bristles having a variable length ranging between the first length and the second length.
[0010] In other embodiments of the invention, the edge styling hairbrush may comprise a generally hexagonal brush head, having a substantially rectangular interior portion that is substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal length of the handle; and a generally triangular end portion extending from a lateral end of the rectangular portion. In some embodiments of the invention, the tufted or bundled bristles have substantially the same length.
[0011] In yet another aspect of the invention, the edge styling hairbrush may have a substantially oval shaped brush head, where a longitudinal length of the brush head is aligned with a longitudinal length of the brush handle. The edge styling hairbrush may have the handle attached at a central aspect of a back surface of the brush head.
[0012] These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0013] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an edge styling hairbrush shown in use.
[0014] FIG. 2 is a perspective view of an alternate embodiment of the edge styling hairbrush.
[0015] FIG. 3 is a perspective view of an alternate embodiment of the edge styling hairbrush.
[0016] FIG. 4 is a perspective view of an alternate embodiment of the edge styling hairbrush.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0017] The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
[0018] Broadly, embodiments of the present invention provide an edge styling hairbrush that is a professional tool that may be used by a variety of people from stylists to individuals trying to simply refine a style. The edge styling hairbrush comprises the same bristles and arrangement of bristles as that of a traditional toothbrush and a handle comparable to that of a cosmetic brush. The user may apply hair product on the brush or directly to the edges when styling.
[0019] As best seen in reference to FIG. 1, the edge styling hairbrush 10 of the present invention is shown in use by a user 22, which may be an individual or an assistant, such as a hair stylist, applying the brush head 14 and associated bristles to the hair 28 of the individual's hair 28. The edge brush 10 may be grasped by a handle 10 in the hand of the user's 22.
[0020] In reference to FIG. 2, an embodiment of the edge brush 10 is shown in which the edge brush 10 has an elongate slender handle 12. The handle may have a widened handle body along a central portion of the handle 12, a free end defined with a blunt end, and a longer slender head end joined to a back surface of the brush head 14. The brush head 14 has a generally pentagonal shape, with a substantially rectangular portion that tapers along a substantially triangular portion to a tip of the brush head 14.
[0021] A plurality of tufted bristles 20 extend from a front surface of the brush head 14. A first array of tufted bristles 20 having substantially the same length is defined in a spaced apart relation throughout the rectangular portion of the brush head 14. A second array of tufted bristles 20 having substantially the same length, and longer than the first array of tufted bristles 20, is defined in a spaced apart relation at the tip of the substantially triangular portion of the brush head 14. A plurality of transition bristles are defined intermediate the first and second array of tufted bristles 20, in which the length of the transition bristles is gradually increased between the first array and the second array.
[0022] In the embodiment of the edge styling hairbrush 24 depicted in reference to FIG. 3, the brush head 16 is substantially hexagonal in shape. The handle 12 attaches to a central portion of the brush head 16 that is substantially rectangular in shape and having a longitudinal length that is generally perpendicular to the handle 12. The lateral aspects of the brush head 16 taper inwardly to define generally triangular end portions of the hexagonal shaped head 16.
[0023] In this embodiment, the tufted bristles 20 are provided in substantially equal lengths and are disposed in a spaced apart relation throughout the front surface of the brush head 16.
[0024] In the embodiment of the edge styling hairbrush 26 depicted in reference to FIG. 4, the brush head 18 has a substantially oval shape, with the long axis of the brush head 18 substantially aligned with the longitudinal length of the handle 12. The tufted bristles 20 are provided in a spaced apart relation through the front surface of the brush head 18.
[0025] While the brush heads 14, 16, and 18 present different profiles for the tufted bristle 20 and their varying length configurations, in preferred embodiments of the edge styling hairbrush of the present invention, the tufted bristles are formed with nylon 6/612. This material is specifically selected for the edge brush so that the nylon bristles are soft enough to be brushed on the face, without pain or damage to the skin along the hairline.
[0026] It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
