DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0015] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new scraping device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

[0016] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7, the ice scraping device 10 generally comprises a housing 12 having a top side 14 and a bottom side 16. An opening 18 extends into the bottom side 16 of the housing 12. The housing 12 has a slit 20 extending through a face 22 of the housing 12. The slit 20 has a plurality of notches 24 therein.

[0017] The notches 24 are spaced along a length of the slit 20. Each of a pair of walls 26 extends from the bottom side 16 of the housing 12. The walls 26 are aligned with the opening 18. Each of the walls 26 has a cutout 28 adjacent to and aligned with the opening 18 wherein the cutouts 28 define a chamber 30 between the walls 26 adjacent to the opening 18.

[0018] A blade 32 has a base 34 and a free edge 36 opposite the base 34. The chamber 30 is complementary to a cross-sectional shape of the base 34 of the blade 32 such that the blade 32 is prevented from passing fully between the walls 26 away from the housing 12 by the base 34 being retained in the chamber 30. Inwardly facing surfaces 38 of the walls 26 abut the blade 32 wherein the walls 26 define a stabilizer 40 coupled to and extending from the housing 12. The walls 26 define a lateral open end 42 of the stabilizer 40 such that the blade 32 is slidable through the lateral open end 42 of the stabilizer 40 when the base 34 is positioned within the chamber 30. The free edge 36 is extendable through the opening 18 and past the walls 26 wherein the free edge 36 of the blade 32 is exposed when the blade 32 is in an extended position 44. The blade 32 is also retractable into the opening 18 wherein the free edge 36 of the blade 32 is positioned between the walls 26. The free edge 36 of the blade 32 may be a chiseled edge.

[0019] A clip 46 is coupled to the housing 12. The clip 46 extends through the slit 20. The clip 46 has a first end 48 abutting the base 34 of the blade 32. The clip 46 is slidable within the slit 20 wherein positioning of the clip 46 within the slit 20 extends and retracts the blade 32. The clip 46 has an engagement flange 50. The clip 46 is positionable in a replacement position 52 wherein the base 34 of the blade 32 is positioned within the chamber 30 completely between the walls 26 outside of the opening 18 into the housing 12. The engagement flange 50 is positionable within a selectable one of the notches 24 wherein the clip 46 is retained in a static position relative to the housing 12. Each notch 24 corresponds to one of the extended position 44, a retracted position 54, and the replacement position 52 of the blade 32. The clip 46 is a spring clip such that the engagement flange 50 is urged to remain within each notch 24 until the spring clip is depressed to disengage the engagement flange 50 from the notch 24. A grip 58 is coupled to and extends over an exterior surface 60 of the housing 12. The grip 58 may be rubber or the like to enhance grasping of the housing 12 and protect the housing 12.

[0020] In use, the blade 32 is positioned in the retracted position 54 for storage and transportation. The clip 46 is manipulated to extend the blade 32 when needed to scrape ice from a surface. The blade 32 is replaced by manipulation of the clip 46 to the replacement position 52 allowing the blade 32 to be moved laterally out of the stabilizer 40.

[0021] Additional embodiments are possible as shown in FIGS. 8 through 10. In FIG. 8, a grip 66 is provided. A slot 68 extends into the grip 66 from a side 70 of the grip.

[0022] The slot 68 also extends at least partially along a bottom 72 of the grip 66. The slot 68 has a T-shape such that a blade 76 having a main portion 78 extending from a transverse base 80 is slidable into the grip 66 through the side 70. The base 80 prevents the blade 76 from passing through the bottom 72 of the grip 66. A pin 82 is insertable through the grip 66 and the blade 76 to couple the blade 76 to the grip 66 preventing the blade 76 from moving out of the slot 68 during use. The pin 82 may engage the grip 66 in any conventional manner to prevent the pin 82 from inadvertently disengaging from the grip 66 and allowing the blade 76 to fall out of the grip 66. The pin 82 is removable when desired to permit removal of the blade 76 from the grip 66 as may be desired for compact storage or replacement of the blade 76.

[0023] In FIG. 9, a handle 84 is provided. The handle 84 may be comprised of separate sections 86,88 which snap together in a conventional manner. Thus, the sections 86,88 may be snapped together around a blade 90. One of the sections 86 includes a window 92 to receive a protrusion 94 from the blade 90. The protrusion 94 may extend fully between lateral sides 96 of the window 92 to prevent the blade 90 from moving laterally within the handle 84. The protrusion 94 may be manipulated to selectively extend and retract the blade 90 relative to the handle 84.

[0024] In FIG. 10, a single blade 98 is provided with a gripping material 100 such as silicone or the like adhered to opposite faces 102,104 of the single blade 98. The gripping material may be cross-shaped extending between respective centers 106 of opposite sides 108 of the single blade 98.

[0025] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

[0026] Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure.
