Abstract:
A decorative figurine for a record player designed to fit over the
spindle of the record player and rotate with a record disposed on the
record player or directly on the turntable of the record player. The
figurine may being a single internally formed piece or may include
multiple pieces that are separately formed and permanently or releasably
attached. The figurine may frictionally engage a record rotating on a
record player and rotate at the same speed as the record such that the
figurine is stationary with respect to the record when the record is
rotating.Claims:
1. A figurine for a record player comprising: a base comprising: a top
surface, a bottom surface configured to frictionally engage a record, and
an cavity located on the bottom surface, the cavity configured to receive
the spindle of a record player; and an ornament attached to the top
surface; wherein the ornament is in direct contact with the top surface;
and wherein the figurine rotates at the same speed as the record such
that the figurine is stationary with respect to the record when the
record is rotating.
2. The figurine of claim 1, wherein the ornament comprises: a body and a platform; wherein the platform is releasably attached to the top surface.
3. The figurine of claim 2, wherein the body and the platform are a single integrally formed piece.
4. The figurine of claim 2, wherein the top surface of the base includes a recess configured to receive at least a portion of the platform.

The figurine of claim 2, further comprising at least one first attachment member disposed on the top surface of the base and at least one second attachment member disposed on the platform; wherein the at least one first attachment member is configured to engage the at least one second attachment member.
6. The figurine of claim 5, comprising at least two first attachment members and at least two second attachment members.
7. The figurine of claim 1, wherein the cavity has a diameter in the range of 0.6 cm to 0.8 cm.
8. The figurine of claim 1, wherein the cavity has a diameter in the range of 0.65 cm to 0.75 cm.
9. The figurine of claim 1, wherein the cavity has a depth in the range of 1.0 cm to 2.25 cm.
10. The figurine of claim 1, wherein the bottom surface has a diameter in the range of 5 cm to 6 cm.
11. The figurine of claim 1, wherein the base is configured to be an adapter for a 45 record.
12. The figurine of claim 2, wherein the ornament is configured to stand upright when not attached to the base.
13. The figurine of claim 2, wherein the platform comprises: a top surface, a bottom surface, a side surface, and at least one attachment member disposed on at least one of: the top surface and the side surface.
14. The figurine of claim 1, wherein the base and the ornament are a single integrally formed piece.

19. The figurine of claim 18, wherein the base is configured to fit over the spindle and the bottom surface is configured to fictionally engage a record disposed on the record player.

A record player comprising: a turntable for rotating a record and a spindle for aligning the record; a figurine, the figurine comprising: a top surface, a bottom surface, and an cavity located on the bottom surface, the cavity configured to receive the spindle of a record player; and an ornament attached to the top surface; wherein the ornament is in direct contact with the top surface; and wherein the figurine rotates at the same speed as the record such that the figurine is stationary with respect to the record when the record is rotating.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0002] This application relates to a decorative figurine for a record player. Specifically, this application is related to a decorative figurine designed to fit over the spindle of a record player.
BACKGROUND
[0003] Record players are used in a variety of situations for playing music. The user of a record player, for example a disc jockey (DJ), may desire to customize his or her record player for various reasons. For example, a customized or unique record player may allow a specific DJ to distinguish himself from other DJs. Moreover, a customized or unique record player may provide fans with an easily recognizable image to associate with a specific DJ, thus increasing the DJ's notoriety. Additionally, non-commercial record player owners may desire to customize their record player for aesthetic or decorative purposes. Others may enjoy collecting and displaying certain decorative items.
[0004] Accordingly, there is a need for a convenient and inexpensive way for record player users to customize their record players.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0005] In one embodiment, a figurine for a record player includes a base having a top surface, a bottom surface configured to frictionally engage a record, and a cavity located on the bottom surface. The cavity being configured to receive the spindle of a record player. The figurine also including an ornament attached to the top surface, the ornament being in direct contact with the top surface. Where the figurine rotates at the same speed as the record such that the figurine is stationary with respect to the record when the record is rotating.
[0006] In some embodiments, the ornament includes a body and a platform, the platform being releasably attached to the top surface of the base. In some embodiments, the body and the platform are a single integrally formed piece. In some embodiments, the top surface of the base includes a recess for receiving at least a portion of the platform.

[0026] In some embodiments, a figurine 200 may be configured to be releasably disposed on a record player 100. In some embodiments, figurine 200 may be configured to releasably attach to record player 100. As shown in FIG. 1, record player 100 may include a turntable 102 for rotating a record 106 and a spindle 104 for aligning record 106 on turntable 102. In some embodiments, figurine 200 includes a base 202 and an ornament 220 Base 202 may be configured to fit over spindle 104 and fictionally engage record 106. In some embodiments, base 202 may be configured to frictionally engage a label 108 on record 106. In some embodiments, base 202 may alternatively or additionally be configured to frictionally engage turntable 102. For example, figurine 200 having base 202 may be used in connection with a turntable 102 without the need for a record 106.
[0027] Ornament 220 may be a decorative article used to increase the aesthetic appeal of a record player. Ornament 220 may include, but is not limited to, an action figure, a letter, a number, a logo, a toy, or a miniaturized object, such as a Christmas tree, a building, a sculpture, a vehicle, an animal, a flower, a stripper pole, a movie character, a ballerina, a combination thereof, and/or the like. In some embodiments, ornament 220 may be a single integrally formed piece. In some embodiments, ornament 220 may be composed of various pieces releasably or permanently attached to each other.
[0028] As shown in FIG. 2A, base 202 may include a top surface 204, a bottom surface 206, and a side surface 208. A cavity 210 configured to receive spindle 104 may be formed in bottom surface 206 of base 202. Cavity 210 may be located anywhere on bottom surface 206. In some embodiments, the center of cavity 210 may be located at the geometrical center of bottom surface 206. In some embodiments, the center of cavity 210 may be located off-center from the geometrical center of bottom surface 206. As shown in FIGS. 2A and 2C, cavity 210 has a diameter (D1) and a depth (d) and bottom surface 206 has a diameter (D2). In some embodiments, cavity 210 may be sized and shaped (i.e., dimensioned) to receive the entire spindle 104. In such embodiments, bottom surface 206 may rest on record 106 when figurine 200 is placed on record 106. In some embodiments, cavity 210 may have a diameter (D1) in the range from about 0.6 cm to about 0.8 cm. In some embodiments, cavity 210 may have a diameter (D1) in the range of 0.65 cm to 0.75 cm. In some embodiments, cavity 210 may have a diameter (D1) such that cavity 210 frictionally engages the outer surface of spindle 104. In this manner, cavity 210 may be sized to have a snug fit with spindle 104. In some embodiments, cavity 210 may have a depth (d) in the range of 1.0 cm to 2.25 cm to allow for varying spindle heights on different turntable models and brands. In some embodiments, the diameter of (D1) and the depth (d) of cavity 210 may be substantially the same as the outer diameter and height of a conventional record player spindle.
[0029] While FIGS. 2A-C show base 202 and cavity 210 having a cylindrical shape, base 202 and cavity 210 may have any shape, including, but not limited to, square shapes, elliptical shapes, pentagonal shapes, rectangular shapes, triangular shapes, etc. In some embodiments, base 202 and cavity 210 may have the same, or substantially the same, shape. In some embodiments, base 202 and cavity 210 may have different shapes.

Bottom surface 206 may additionally or alternatively be configured to frictionally engage turntable 102 of record player 100. Frictional engagement between figurine 200 and record 106 or turntable 102 facilitates co-rotation of figurine 200 with record 106 on record player 100 and/or with turntable 102. In other words, due to the frictional engagement between figurine 200 and record 106, figurine 200 rotates at the same speed as record 106 and is stationary with respect to record 106 when record 106 is rotating. In some embodiments, bottom surface 206 has a diameter (D2) in the range of 5 cm to 6 cm. In some embodiments, D2 is greater than D1. In some embodiments, bottom surface 206 may include, for example, a surface coating and/or surface features to increase the surface friction between bottom surface 206 and record 106 to help prevent figurine 200 from sliding around when used in mixing and scratching. In some embodiments, bottom surface 206 may include a rough and/or or rubbery surface to facilitate frictional engagement between bottom surface 206 and record 106 to help prevent figurine 200 from sliding around when used in mixing and scratching.

For example, in some embodiments, base 202 may serve as an adaptor for a 45 record. In such embodiments, bottom surface 206 may have a diameter (D2) of approximately 3.8 cm (i.e., the diameter of the inner hole of a 45 record) and may rest directly on turntable 102. In some embodiments, side surface 208 of base 202 may include, for example, a surface coating and/or surface features to increase the surface friction between side surface 208 and the 45 record. In some embodiments, side surface 208 may include one or more elastic members 500, such as flexible fingers, configured to extend from side surface 208 and engage the inner hole of the 45 record (see e.g., FIG. 5).

In some embodiments, figurine 200 may be a single integrally formed piece (e.g., ornament 220 may be integrally formed together with base 202). Ornament 220 and base 202 may be integrally formed using for example, but not limited to, injection molding, free forming, 3D printing, a combination thereof, and/or other manufacturing techniques. In some embodiments, base 202 and ornament 220 may be formed separately and permanently attached using, for example, adhesives or welding. In some embodiments, ornament 220 and base 202 may be separate pieces, and ornament 220 may be releasably attached to base 202.
[0034] Figurine 200 may include one or more decorative features, including, but not limited to, paint, sparkles, reflectors, movable features, glow in the dark features, etc. In some embodiments, figurine 200 may also have a functional aspect. As a non-limiting example, figurine 200 may include an air freshener 250 disposed on or within figurine 200. As another non-limiting example, figurine 200 may speak and/or move when prompted by a user. For example, figurine 200 may include a battery 252 and electronic circuitry 254 configured to actuate a portion of ornament 220 and/or produce audio. In such embodiments, figurine 200 may be promoted to speak and/or move when a user presses a button disposed on figurine 200. In such embodiments, electronic circuitry 254 of figurine 200 may include memory to store audio files. As another non-limiting example, figurine 200 may include one or more lights 256 that light up when promoted by a user. For example, figurine 200 may include a battery and electronic circuitry configured to light up a portion of ornament 220 when a user presses actuates an actuator 258 (e.g., presses a button or flips a switch) disposed on figurine 200. While FIG. 2A shows light(s) 256 located on base 202, light(s) 256 may alternatively or additionally be located on ornament 220. Also, while FIG. 2A shows actuator 258 located on base 202, actuator 258 may alternatively or additionally be located on ornament 220.
[0035] In some embodiments, electronic circuitry 254 of figurine 200 may include a processor configured to operate a portion of the figurine (e.g., a light or a movable feature, such as an arm) in conjunction with the music being played by the record player.
[0036] FIGS. 3A and 3B show a base 202 and an ornament 220 that are separate, releasably attachable, pieces according to some embodiments. Base 202 and ornament 220 may be formed using suitable forming techniques including, but not limited to, injection molding, free forming, 3D printing, and a combination thereof. In two piece embodiments, base 202 may include at least one first attachment member 212 configured to engage at least one second attachment member 232 disposed on ornament 220. In some embodiments, as shown in FIG. 3A, first attachment member(s) 212 may be disposed on top surface 204 of base 202. First attachment member(s) 212 may be, but are not limited to, pegs, protrusions, apertures, slots, VELCRO® loops, VELCRO® hooks, and magnets. Second attachment member(s) 232 may complement first attachment member(s) 212 and may be, but are not limited to pegs, protrusions, apertures, slots, VELCRO® loops, VELCRO® hooks, and magnets. FIGS. 3A and 3B show an embodiment where first attachment members 212 are apertures for receiving second attachment members 232 that are pegs.

In some embodiments, base 202 may be weighted to help prevent base 202 of falling over during use. In some embodiments, base 202 may be heavier than ornament 220. In some embodiments, base 202 may be made of a heavier material than the material(s) used to make figurine.
[0043] Figurine 200 discussed in various embodiments herein may be used in conjunction with any record player. Each figurine 200 is interchangeable and easily replaceable with other figurines 200. Since figurine 200 only engages the record 106, turntable 102, and/or spindle 104 of the record player 100, the size, shape, and location of record player 100 does not affect the use of figurine 200. Figurine 200 does not interfere with any features of the record player itself; therefore design features on specific types of record players do not affect the use or functionality of figurine 200. Moreover, should a user buy a new record player, his or her figurines will fit on the new record player, thus eliminating the need for the user to buy new figurines for the new record player. The interchangeability of the figurines allows a user to collect various figurines and use specific ones for specific occasions or locations. A user can collect figurines related to their personality and/or favorite genre of music. Also, the figurines may be used to decorate during specific times of the year, e.g., holiday or seasonal decoration.
[0044] Some embodiments may be directed towards record player figurine kit 600. Kit 600 may include one or more of: a base 202, an ornament 220, attachment tools 602, and instructions 604. Base 202, ornament 220, attachment tools 602, and/or instructions 604 may be contained within a package 610. Package 610 may include a packaging container such as, but not limited to, a bag, a plastic container, a tin, a box, a combination thereof, and/or the like.

In such embodiments, instructions 604 may include instructions for (or may direct an individual to instructions for) how to attach an individual's personal ornament (e.g., toy, figurine, doll, etc.) to base 202. Instructions 604 may be in the form of a booklet, brochure, pamphlet, etc. In some embodiments, instructions 604 may include instructions related to the replacement of one ornament with another ornament.
