Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to personal hygiene products and, more particularly, to a device for removing dry, dead skin from a user's feet without requiring bending or a hand-held beauty instrument.
[0002] Typical foot care requires bending which can be difficult for seniors or those with physical challenges. For example, hand-held skin buffing stones or pads are typically used during or after bathing, but requires constant bending of one's back and/or knees during use. Moreover, if used in the shower, for example, the user also has to balance on one foot while bending and using the hand-held device.
[0003] As can be seen, there is a need for a device for removing dead skin from a user's feet without the need for difficult bending or balancing during use thereof.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0004] In one aspect of the present invention, a skin conditioning device comprises a base member; a perforated emery layer attached to the base member; an attachment mechanism for securing the base member to a surface; and slots cut in side walls of the base member to allow water and dead skin to be washed out of the skin conditioning device.
[0005] In another aspect of the present invention, a skin conditioning device comprises a base member formed of a flexible mat material; a perforated emery layer disposed on the base member; an adhesive securing the perforated emery layer to the base member; a plurality of suction cups for securing the base member to a surface; and slots cut in side walls of the base member to allow water and dead skin to be washed out of the skin conditioning device.
[0006] In a further aspect of the present invention, a skin conditioning device comprises a base member; a perforated emery layer attached to the base member; first and second straps extending from sides of the base member for securing the base member to a user's hand; and slots cut in side walls of the base member to allow water and dead skin to be washed out of the skin conditioning device.
[0007] These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.

[0012] FIG. 5 is a perspective view of a foot conditioning device according to an alternative embodiment of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0013] The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
[0014] Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention provides a foot conditioning device that can be used to remove dead skin from a user's feet without requiring the user to bend or carefully balance themselves during use. The foot conditioning device can be placed on a floor surface, such as the bottom of a tub or shower. A perforated layer, such as an emery layer, can be attached to a base member that is placed on the floor surface. The perforated emery layer can be used by the user by rubbing their feet along the perforated emery layer to remove dead skin. The user can replace the perforated emery layer as desired or to change between various coarseness. Once in place, the user can use the foot conditioning device without having to bend over or carefully balance themselves.
[0015] Referring to FIGS. 1 through 4, a foot conditioning device can include a base member 16 that can include an attachment mechanism for fixing the base member 16 to a surface 22. The attachment mechanism can be, for example, a plurality of suction cups 20 disposed on the bottom side of the base member 16. The suction cups 20 allows the foot conditioning device to be placed on a smooth surface, such as a tub, shower, tile floor, or the like.
[0016] A perforated exfoliating material, such as a perforated emery layer 10 can be placed on the base member 16. The base member 16 can include slots 18 formed in sides of the base member 16. The slots 18 can allow water and dead skin to be washed through the perforated emery layer 10 and out of the base member 16. The slots 18 may be disposed on opposite sides of the base member 10. While the figures show two of such slots 18, various numbers and various positions of the slots 18 are contemplated within the scope of the present invention. The slots 18 may also be useful to help a user grasp the perforated emery layer 10 when attempting to remove or change the perforated emery layer 10 to a new layer or a different coarseness.
[0017] The perforated emery layer 10 can be attached to the base member 16 by various mechanisms. For example, an adhesive layer 12 can be disposed on the perforated emery layer 10 for attachment to the base member 16. The adhesive layer 12 should be designed to be removable should the user desire to change to a different perforated emery layer 10. In some embodiments, the adhesive layer 12 can be omitted, where the perforated emery layer 10 is retained between the side walls of the base member 16.
[0018] In some embodiments, a logo insert 14 can be provided to be attached to the base member 16. The logo insert 14 can provide brand information, information on ordering additional or replacement perforated emery layers, and the like. The logo insert 14 can be made from a material that can drain water away well, such as a loofah material, or the like.
[0019] The foot conditioning device of the present invention can be made in various sizes and shapes. For example, the base member 16 can be a rubber mat that is about 12 inches long and about 8 inches wide. When using the foot conditioning device, the user simply rubs his or her feet over the perforated emery layer 10, causing removal of dead skin and callouses. As water washes over the foot conditioning device, the water enters the perforations and drains out of the slots 18, rinsing away the dead skin removed by the device.
[0020] Referring to FIG. 5, a smaller version of the foot conditioning device can be designed as a strap-attached conditioning device 24. This device can include adjustable straps 26 that can attach to each other with, for example, a hook and loop fastener 28, and attach to a user's hand. The device 24 can be used by the user to condition their own hands or feet, or the hands or feet of another.
[0021] It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
