Inventors:  Daniel Austin (Herrin, IL, US)
IPC8 Class: AA43B2300FI
USPC Class: 36131
Class name: Occupational or athletic shoe (e.g., roof climbing, gardening, etc.) athletic shoe or attachment therefor for riding (e.g., cycling, horse riding, etc.)
Publication date: 2014-11-06
Patent application number: 20140325878

Abstract:

The device is a semicircular attachment to the heel of footwear by way of screws. It has a vertical arm attached to a horizontal arm ending in an end cap. It is also a method used to shift motorcycles without a person's foot leaving the peg or floorboard.

Claims:

1. A device comprising a semi-circular mounting attachment to footwear with a perpendicular vertical arm that is attached at a midline of the mounting attachment and perpendicular the mounting attachment the vertical arm extends into a horizontal arm in a ninety degree or above angle.

2. The device in claim 1 where two or more screw holes are present.

3. The device in claim 1 where an end cap is attached to the horizontal arm.

4. A method of shifting a motorcycle where a rider's foot does not have to be lifted instead a mounting attachment with a perpendicular vertical arm extending into a horizontal arm is placed on a heel of a rider's footwear, when the motorcycle needs to be shifted the horizontal arm depresses a shift peg.

Description:

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0001] This application is a continuation in part of design application 29/449,110 filed Mar. 14, 2013. This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application Ser. No. 61/856,906 filed by Austin on Jul. 22, 2013 and entitled "Footwear Attachment for Motorcycle Shifting," which is incorporated herein by reference.

FIELD OF INVENTION

[0002] The invention relates to attachments to footwear used for motorcycle riding.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0003] Some motorcycles require riders to move their feet in order to shift gears. The present invention will enable the rider to manipulate the rear rocker shift peg of the mid controls eliminating the need for the motorcycle rider to lift his or her boot from the secure surface commonly referred to as the floorboard between the front and rear rocker shift pegs of a motorcycle so equipped with a rocker shift arm gear changing system. Additionally, the present invention enables the rider to manipulate the rear horizontal shift peg of a motorcycle using a mid control system in a stock/factory configuration of mid controls.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] The present invention is a semicircular mounting attachment to the heel of footwear by way of screws or integrated as part of the heel or sole of the footwear. It has a vertical arm attached to a horizontal arm ending in an end cap.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

[0005] FIG. 1 is a front view of the present invention

[0006] FIG. 2 is a side view of the present invention

[0007] FIG. 3 is a bottom view of the present invention

[0008] FIG. 4 is a top view of the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0009] The device 10 in FIG. 1 is a footwear attachment is generally an oblong semicircular mounting attachment 100 with a first screw hole 120, 150 near each lateral end. One or more additional screw holes 110, 130, 140, 160 are located near the midline of mounting attachment 100. One or more additional third screw holes 130 are located near the top midline of the mounting attachment 100.

[0010] The vertical arm 200 is attached to the mounting attachment in a perpendicular fashion and extends above the top of the mounting attachment 100.

[0011] The horizontal arm 300 has an end cap 400 that can be a variety of shapes but must extend in one or more directions perpendicular to the horizontal arm 300.

[0012] FIG. 2 shows the vertical arm 200 can be attached to the midline of the mounting attachment 100. The lateral sides of the vertical arm 200 are perpendicular to the mounting attachment 100. When the vertical arm 200 is secured to the mounting attachment 100, the vertical arm 200 is vertical to the ground. When the vertical arm 200 is above the mounting attachment 100 then it takes a 90 degree or more turn and extends into the horizontal arm 300 generally horizontally from the ground. A first screw hole 120 and two additional screw holes 110 and 130 show where screws can be used to attach the device 10 to the heel of a rider's footwear.

[0013] FIGS. 3 and 4 show a top and bottom view of the device 10. The horizontal arm 300 and vertical arm 200 are extending in a perpendicularly direction from the midline of the mounting attachment 100. The end cap 400 is parallel or almost parallel to the mounting attachment 100. The end cap 400 can be any shape as long as part of it extends in a perpendicular direction from the horizontal arm 300.

[0014] The device 10 can be made of any hard substance including hard plastics, rubbers, metals or metal alloys.

[0015] The device 10 is used to shift a motorcycle where a rider's foot does not have to be lifted instead a mounting attachment 100 with a perpendicular vertical arm 200 extending into a horizontal arm 300 is placed on a heel of a rider's footwear, when the motorcycle needs to be shifted the horizontal arm 300 depresses a shift peg.
