Abstract:
A dummy hard disk drive (HDD) is used to replace a true HDD during
testing of a device in which the true HDD will be installed. The dummy
HDD includes a box the same size and shape as the true HDD, a cover, and
filling material selectively placed in the box. The cover is fixed to the
top of the box to cover the box. When the cover is not fixed on the box,
the filling material can be placed in or taken out of the box.Claims:
1. A dummy hard disk drive (HDD), comprising: a box same as a true HDD in
shape and size, and defining at least one filling compartment; filling
material filled in the at least one filling compartment; at least one
cover fixed to the top of the box to cover the at least one filling
compartment, wherein the filling material is removable from the at least
one filling compartment when the at least one filling compartment is not
covered.
2. The dummy HDD of claim 1, wherein the filling material is a blend of wax and copper powder.
3. The dummy HDD of claim 1, wherein the box comprises a bottom wall, two opposite sidewalls, two opposite end walls, and two partitioning plates perpendicularly extend up from the bottom wall and connected between the end walls, the at least one filling compartment comprises two filling compartments, the at least one cover comprises two covers to respectively cover the two filling compartments; each of the filling compartments is bounded by one of the partitioning plates, one of the sidewalls adjacent to the partitioning plate, the bottom wall, and the end walls.
4. The dummy HDD of claim 3, wherein quantities of the filling material filled into the two filling compartment of the box are equal.
5. The dummy HDD of claim 3, wherein each of the partitioning plates comprises a U-shaped bent portion at a middle of the partitioning plate, protruding towards one of the filling compartments bounded by the partitioning plate, a mounting space is defined between the bent portions of the two partitioning plates.
6. The dummy HDD of claim 3, wherein a plurality of positioning columns extends up from the bottom plate, arranged along and adjacent to the sidewalls, the end walls, and the partitioning plates, each of the positioning columns axially defines a fastening hole.
Description:
BACKGROUND
[0001] 1. Technical Field
[0002] The present disclosure relates to a dummy hard disk drive.
[0003] 2. Description of Related Art
[0004] In development of a computer or a server, a series of tests, such as, drop, impact, and vibration tests are performed. In the tests, dummy hard disk drives (HDDs) are mounted in a chassis to replace true HDDs for economical reasons. However, HDDs of different types have various weights. To achieve meaningful test results, a number of dummy HDDs with different weights to correspondingly replace HDDs of different types should be prepared, which is inconvenient and uneconomical.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0005] Many aspects of the present embodiments can be better understood with reference to the following drawings. The components in the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead being placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the present embodiments. Moreover, in the drawings, all the views are schematic, and like reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
[0006] FIG. 1 is an isometric, exploded view of an exemplary embodiment of a dummy hard disk drive.
[0007] FIG. 2 is an assembled view FIG. 1.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0008] The disclosure, including the accompanying drawings, is illustrated by way of examples and not by way of limitation. It should be noted that references to "an" or "one" embodiment in this disclosure are not necessarily to the same embodiment, and such references mean at least one.
[0009] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, in an exemplary embodiment, a dummy hard disk drive (HDD) is used to replace a true HDD in a test. The dummy HDD includes a box 10, two covers 20, and filling material 30 to be filled in the box 10.
[0010] The box 10 has the same size and shape as the true HDD in shape and size. The box 10 includes a bottom wall 11, two opposite sidewalls 12, and two opposite end walls 13. Two partitioning plates 14 extend up from the bottom wall 11, and are adjacent to each other and connected between the end walls 13. Two filling compartments 142 are defined in the box 10, each filling compartment 142 bounded by the bottom wall 11, the end walls 13, the corresponding sidewall 12, and the corresponding partitioning plate 14. The two filling compartments 142 are the same size and shape and are symmetrically arranged at opposite sides of the portioning plates 14 to each other. Each of the partitioning plates 14 includes a U-shaped bent portion 1421 at a middle of the partitioning plate 14, protruding into the corresponding one of the filling compartments 142 bounded by the partitioning plate 14. A mounting space 1423 is defined between the bent portions 1421 of the two partitioning plates 14 to mount a testing device, such as an accelerometer. A plurality of positioning columns 112 extends up from the bottom plate 11, arranged along and adjacent to the sidewalls 12, the end walls 13, and the partitioning plates 14. Each of the positioning columns 112 axially defines a fastening hole 1123.
[0011] Each of the covers 20 is substantially the same shape and size as a bottom of one of the filling compartments 142. Each of the covers 20 defines a plurality of fixing holes 23, arranged adjacent to and along edges of the cover 20.
[0012] In one embodiment, the filling material 30 is a blend of wax and copper powder.
[0013] In use, the material 30 is heated to be flowable. Equal amounts of the material 30 is poured into the two filling compartments 142 of the box 10. The two covers 20 are fixed to the top of the box 10, to respectively cover the two filling compartments 142, with a plurality of screws extending through the fixing holes 23 of the covers 20 and fastened in the fastening holes 1123 of the corresponding positioning columns 112. The total weight of the box 10, the two covers 20, and the amount of the filling material 30 filled in the box 10 is controlled to be equal to a true HDD to be replaced by the dummy HDD. To increase or decrease the weight of the dummy HDD, the cover 20 is detached from the box 10 to add or remove filling material 30.
[0014] It is to be understood, however, that even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the embodiment have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and function of the embodiment, the disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in detail, especially in the matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the present disclosure to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.
