Patent application title: "Silencer" Pickle Ball Paddle

Inventors:  Duane E. Hill (Surprise, AZ, US)  Sherry L. Hill (Surprise, AZ, US)
IPC8 Class: AA63B5900FI
USPC Class: 473528
Class name: Racket or paddle; accessory therefor (e.g., a tennis racket, tennis racket press, etc.) paddle projectile striking surface is flexible sheet secured to peripheral frame
Publication date: 2014-03-06
Patent application number: 20140066235

Abstract:

Rubber sheets of various compounds are glued to the outer surfaces of pickle ball paddles made of plastic, wood, fiberglass, aluminum or graphite.

Claims:

1. Covering the hard outer surfaces of a pickle ball paddle with a rubber sheet product improves the paddle by attenuating the objectionable loud sound produced when the ball contacts the paddle.

2. Covering the hard and slick outer surfaces of a pickle ball paddle with a more tacky rubber surface, increases the player's ability to create spin thereby hitting better controlled shots.

Description:

[0001] The Silencer is a method and concept of improving the manufacture of pickle ball paddles (as shown by FIG. 1 and FIG. 2) by covering core face of the paddle, which can be made of plastic, wood, fiberglass aluminum or graphite (labeled #1 in the drawings), with a rubber product (labeled #2 in the drawings), the result of which is to attenuate the loud sound produced by the ball striking a paddle which is not covered with a rubber product.

[0002] FIG. 1 shows the Top View with the rubber (labeled #2) being overlaid onto the core face (labeled #1) of the paddle. FIG. 2 shows the Side View with the rubber (labeled #2) affixed to the core face (labeled #1) of the paddle.

[0003] The Silencer eliminates or reduces the primary objection to Pickle Ball and Pickle Ball courts; that being the loud sound produced when the ball strikes the paddle. Additionally, the rubber product provides more ball control to the player.

[0004] Under this patent, the holder of the patent would produce or cause to be produced from the beginning of the paddle manufacturing process through the end product delivering a paddle (labeled #1 in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 in the drawings) that is ready for play. The patent holder would also modify existing paddles owned by the end user, by attaching a rubber product (labeled #2 in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 in the drawings) to the face of that paddle, or providing the rubber product in a pre-cut form which can be added to a paddle face by the user.
