Patent application title: Hoodie

Inventors:  Steven Coward (Detroit, MI, US)
IPC8 Class: AA41D300FI
USPC Class: 2 84
Class name: Apparel body garments hooded
Publication date: 2013-06-20
Patent application number: 20130152269

Abstract:

A hoodie having a holder pouch on the outside of a hand warmer panel with an open top able to be selectively closed with mating hook and loop strips.

Claims:

1. In combination with a hoodie or other similar garment having a frontal hand warmer panel open on either side, the improvement comprising: a holder pouch on the exterior of the warmer panel defined by a generally rectangular pouch panel sewn across the bottom and two sides to the exterior of the hand warmer panel leaving an open top; and a selectively openable securement for closing the top edge.

2. The hoodie according to claim 1 wherein said closure comprises mateable aligned hook and loop strips extending across the top of the pouch panel and the hoodie front to enable closing the top of the holder pouch.

Description:

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] This invention concerns hoodie garments. Such garments have a sewn on panel in the lower part of the front of the garment, forming a single space, partially open at either side so as to allow a wearer to insert his or her hands therein to keep them warm.

[0002] Wearers often try to store items such as a cell phone behind the hand warmer panel, but the presence of the side hand openings precludes securely retaining anything put in the pouch.

[0003] Gamers have a particular need to hold portable game consoles to free up their hands in order to use a cell phone while carrying the game consoles.

[0004] It is an object of the present invention to provide a hoodie with a convenient to use holder capability which securely stows such items as game consoles or cell phones.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005] The above object and other objects which will be understood upon reading the following specification and claims are achieved by a pouch panel sewn on the exterior of the front of the hand warmer panel, the pouch panel sewn on three sides but open at the top, and having a closure such as mating hook and loop strips at the top to selectively enable closing of the top side of the pouch. The holder pouch so formed is relatively large and able to comfortably receive and securely retain portable gaming consoles, cell phones and the like. A cord can be routed out of the pouch even with the closure at the top closed.

DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0006] FIG. 1 is a pictorial view from the front of a hoodie according to the present invention.

[0007] FIG. 2 is a pictorial view of the hoodie shown in FIG. 1 being worn and the wearer's hands placed within the space behind the hand warmer panel.

[0008] FIG. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary front view of a portion of the hoodie shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 showing an object disposed in the pouch formed by a pouch panel sewn onto the hand warmer panel, with a cord routed out past the closure at the top thereof.

[0009] FIG. 4 is a pictorial view from one side of the fragmentary portion shown in FIG. 3, shown with a hook and loop closure opened to allow objects to be deposited in the pouch formed by the pouch panel.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0010] In the following detailed description, certain specific terminology will be employed for the sake of clarity and a particular embodiment described in accordance with the requirements of 35 USC 112, but it is to be understood that the same is not intended to be limiting and should not be so construed inasmuch as the invention is capable of taking many forms and variations within the scope of the appended claims.

[0011] Referring to the drawings, a hoodie 10 is shown adapted to be worn on the upper torso, including traditional parts of a hood 12, long sleeves 14, and a body shirt 16 having a fabric hand warmer panel 18 sewn to the front of the body shirt 16. The hand warmer panel 18 is sewn to the body shirt 16 with the top and bottom stitching 20, 22. The panel 18 is unattached along major portions of either side to allow a wearer to place his or her hands into a space defined behind the panel 18 as seen in FIG. 2.

[0012] Reinforcing stitched hem 24 is typically included along the open portions of either side of the panel 18.

[0013] According to the present invention, an additional generally rectangular fabric panel 24 is sewn to the outside of the front of the hand warmer panel 18 along the bottom 28 and the two sides 30, but left unsewn across the top, to form a pouch for receiving objects such as a cell phone or gaming console 32.

[0014] The top edge is adopted to be selectively opened or closed by a closure 34 extending across the top.

[0015] The closure preferably comprises mateable hook and loop strips 36, 38 (FIG. 4) which may not extend completely across the top. This allows passage of a cord 28 as for ear plugs or a game controller as shown.

[0016] Accordingly, a provision for conveniently holding various objects is provided for a hoodie garment or other garments having a hand warmer panel.

[0017] A sweatshirt not having a hand warmer panel could also be provided with a pouch as shown.
