Temporary-use recyclable weather-resistant body-cover

Abstract

The invention provides an improved body-cover (garment) to be worn in situations where a degree of body-covering is desired prior to an event but retention of said body-cover becomes a nuisance or hindrance once the event has started. The body-cover is made of a recyclable material that is weather-resistant. Therefore, the body-cover can be worn temporarily and be discarded as needed without resulting in waste-products or pollutants. The discarded body-cover material can be recycled to manufacture new body-covers. The invention improves on existing solutions in that prior solutions used non-recyclable materials such as plastic.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] It is often the case that one requires some weather-resistant body-cover article (e.g., garment, clothing, jacket, poncho, etc.) at some outdoor event in which said article could result in being a hindrance at some later time during the event. As an example, at a running race it is generally advantageous to be wearing as little as possible during the race in order to minimize overall weight. Moreover, running races are typically run in cold weather for various reasons, which means that prior to the race one is uncomfortably cold prior to warming up. This is just the type of event for which having some type of body-cover prior to the event would be very opportune but retaining the article once the race starts would be very inconvenient.

[0002] In order to deal with article once the event has started, one could retain said article in some way; however, that would be a hindrance in some way or another. Alternatively, the article could be discarded at some opportune time; however, that would be both very wasteful, and a possible blight or pollutant to the environment. Lastly, one could also attempt to leave the article some place and retrieve it after the event; however, there is a high likelihood that the article would no longer be where it was placed for some reason or another. All things considered, having some covering prior to the event is advantageous but having to deal with the covering somehow is definitely problematic, and potentially wasteful and polluting.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0003] In accordance with the invention, the problem of what to do with a body-covering article once its usefulness has ceased and its retention becomes a hindrance is avoided by manufacturing the article using a recyclable, weather-resistant material.

[0006] The following detailed description is of the best presently contemplated mode of carrying out the invention. This description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating general principles of embodiments of the invention.

[0007] The invention essentially comprises a body-cover that is manufactured using materials that are both recyclable and weather-resistant, to provide some degree of protection from the elements such as cold temperature or a very light drizzle, yet are sufficiently supple to be easily wearable and not a hindrance to movement. The recyclability of the proposed body-cover would enable and promote the temporary-use of the body-cover, negating wastefulness and polluting when discarded. The invention would provide the desired weather-resistance when the body-cover is needed, it would be used as needed and could be discarded as desired but the body-cover's material could be reused.

[0008] The envisioned body-cover would be a garment such as a jacket, pants, or a poncho. The drawings included with this application demonstrate a jacket as the preferred embodiment, although the same concepts are immediately applicable to pants or a poncho type covering. FIGS. 1 and 2 illustrate the front and back sides, respectively, of the jacket embodiment of the temporary-use, recyclable, and weather-resistant body-cover.

[0009] The body-cover would be manufactured using a recyclable material, such as paper, that would be of a consistency that would provide adequate weather-resistance, and also allow ease of movement and comfortable wear. The body-cover, or jacket in the preferred embodiment, could be manufactured in much the same way that cloth-based garments are manufactured. That is, the jacket could be manufactured from segments that are joined together to produce a final jacket product. Although this is not a requirement, it is the most logical way of producing the jacket.

[0010] More specifically, the manufacture of the jacket would first involve selecting a recyclable material, such as paper, that is sufficiently weather-resistant, supple enough to permit easy movement, and robust enough for short-term moderate wear. The recyclable material is then formed into sheets, the dimensions of which are sufficient to form the desired number of jackets. As with conventional clothing manufacturing, patterns are then drawn on the sheets to establish the segments which will be assembled to create the jacket. The segments are then cut from the sheets and grouped together per jacket. Finally, the segments are joined together using an adhesive to form the jacket.

[0011] The temporary-use, recyclable, and weather-resistant body-cover is intended to be used in situations in which a garment is desired to protect against the elements prior to an outdoor event; however, having to wear the garment during the event would become a hindrance for some reason or another. The invention would be ideal for such usage. A body-cover made to the specifications described herein would provide the needed weather-resistance and would provide the necessary recyclability permitting users to discard the body-cover at some point during the event yet allow the materials of the body-cover to be reused.

[0012] Current solutions to the problem addressed by this invention involve the use of non-recyclable materials. Although they do provide a degree of weather-resistance, they are a waste product or a pollutant since they cannot be recycled.

Claims

1. A body-cover comprising: a) a recyclable material; b) that is weather-resistant; c) to be worn for a period of time as needed; and d) is discardable.

2. The body-cover in claim 1, in which the recyclable material is paper-based.
