Patent application title: DynaFlange.TM.

Inventors:  Jerome Dennis Segel (West Tisbury, MA, US)
IPC8 Class: AA43B714FI
USPC Class: 36145
Class name: Boots, shoes, and leggings orthopedic boot or shoe with corrective element arch support
Publication date: 2010-07-15
Patent application number: 20100175279

foot function during stance and ambulation by absorbing shock in the gaps that form between an orthotic, shoe or heel cup and the DynaFlange® 3 dimensional plate. Its flanges dynamically deform at impact causing the gaps between the concave heel cup and the convex DynaFlange® to interact providing foot and ankle protection, repositioning and motion control while dynamically absorbing shock. It then returns to its original state which stabilizes and propels the foot actively, superior to other orthoses. DynaFlange® is active at stance phase and earlier in gait cycle allowing improved biomechanicals when compared to other orthotics.

Claims:

1. DynaFlange® is a dynamic motion control devise, stand alone, inshoe or orthotic mod.DynaFlange® actively decelerates pronation or supination more efficiently & earlier than orthotics aloneDynaFlange® actively absorbs shock, stores the energy and returns it for resupinationDynaFlange® absorbs shock earlier in the gait cycle than standard orthotics/heel cupsDynaFlange® manages ground force reaction in a measured fashionDynaFlange® lends heel lift without the same forefoot burden posed by typical heel liftsDynaFlange® provides for a more stable foot by actively assisting the musculoskeletal system and providing additional cuboid and medial longitudinal arch supportDynaFlange® provides increased propulsion over orthotics without the DynaFlange®DynaFlange® actively works to prevent ankle trauma by controlling & rebalancing the footDynaFlange® works during stance phase and side to side motion far superior to standard orthoses because it primarily controls frontal plane motion.DynaFlange® modified orthotic has superior slip resistance due to the flange shoe interactionThe Dynaflange® invention pertains to foot function, mechanics, kinectic chain, gait cycle and the musculoskeletal system. It was invented solely by; Dr. Jerome (Jay) Segel, DPM.

Description:

[0001]DynaFlange® is a semi-rigid plate attached to the plantar aspect of an orthotic, shoe or heel cup to assist the musculoskeletal system. Its flanges dynamically deform at impact causing the gaps between the concave heel cup and the convex DynaFlange® to interact providing foot a ankle protection, repositioning and motion control while dynamically absorbing shock. It then returns to its original state which stabilizes and propels the foot actively, superior to other orthoses. DynaFlange® is active at stance phase and earlier in gait cycle allowing improved biomechanicals when compared to other orthotics.
