Abstract

The Pocket Square Brooch is an article of jewelry comprised of precious metal containing an overlapped display of triangular leafs fashioned to replicate the image of an artistically folded cloth handkerchief. The brooch is designed to be positioned and fastened above the external breast pocket of a suit jacket simulating an elevated view. A scatter pin and clutch fastener is installed onto the rear side of the embodiment which enables the ornament to be fastened directly to fabric.

Description

[0001]The Pocket Square Brooch is an article of jewelry comprised of precious metal containing an overlapped display of triangular leafs fashioned to replicate the image of an artistically folded cloth handkerchief. A scatter pin and clutch fastener is installed onto the rear of the embodiment which enables the ornament to be attached to fabric. The brooch is made to be positioned and fastened above the external breast pocket of a suit jacket simulating an elevated view. The Pocket Square Brooch is utilized by removing the clutch from the pin post, grasping the tip of the clutch and applying a pulling motion. The ornament is then placed against a suit jacket above the external breast pocket and positioned to simulate an elevated view. Light pressure is then applied against the brooch causing the pin post to pierce completely thru the jacket beyond its inner liner and the clutch is reinserted onto the pin post with a pushing motion fastening the ornament in place.

No. 2,513,884--Ornamental Simulated Handkerchief, a pocket insert comprising a flattened tube of stiff material designed to be worn in the breast pocket of a jacket. The prior art referenced relates generally to the present invention as a pocket ornament, utilized as a pocket insert which is totally supported by the pocket. The Pocket Square Brooch is independently supported by a scatter pin and clutch fastener.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0005]This invention relates generally to an artistically folded cloth handkerchief or pocket square utilized by insertion down into the external breast pocket of a suit jacket while retaining a portion of cloth extending up out of the pocket displaying an elevated view. Moreover it pertains specifically to a Pocket Square Brooch, an article of jewelry comprised of precious metal containing an overlapped display of triangular leafs fashioned to replicate the image of an artistically folded cloth handkerchief. The ornament is made to be positioned and fastened above the external breast pocket of a suit jacket simulating an elevated view.

[0006]The closest known prior art comprises the following patents: U.S. Pat. Nos. 3,786,520, 5,231,702 and 2,513,884. The prior art referenced relates generally to the present invention as a pocket ornament, utilized as a pocket insert which is totally dependent on support from the pocket. The Pocket Square Brooch incorporates a scatter pin and clutch fastener which enables the ornament to be attached directly to fabric and is therefore totally independent from support of the pocket. Until now, the traditional pocket square has been available only in cloth which loses its durability when exposed to moisture such as wet weather and sweat or much physical activity from body movement causing the handkerchief to collapse down into the pocket over time without any artificial support. The brooch is composed of precious metal which is far more durable and resistant to moisture and body movement. The brooch, composed of precious metal, is easier to coordinate with a wardrobe of apparel containing diverse colors eliminating the need for a multi-colored collection of cloth. The brooch, unlike the handkerchief, may be utilized for creative applications or with attire excluding an external breast pocket.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0008]In view of the limitations now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a new and useful Pocket Square Brooch, which is simple in construction, universally usable and versatile in application. Its composition of precious metal renders far more durability over cloth. The Pocket Square Brooch may be conveniently coordinated with a wardrobe of attire containing diverse colors eliminating the need for a multi-colored cloth collection and may be also utilized by one unskilled in the art of artistically folding a cloth handkerchief. The ornament may be molded or structured to display a single to plurality of leafs. The leaf structure may be of triangular, rectangular or oval design. The brooch is originally designed to contain a scatter pin and clutch assembly but may also be supported by an alternate fastener as well, such as a pin back clasp.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0029]The Pocket Square Brooch 12 is an article of jewelry comprised of precious metal containing an overlapped display of triangular leafs 15, relating to embodiment 12 of the invention 10 in FIG. 1a of the drawings, fashioned to replicate the image of an artistically folded cloth handkerchief. A scatter pin 14b and clutch 14a fastener FIG. 2 is installed onto the rear of the embodiment 12b as referenced in FIG. 1b. 10 is the overall invention of a Pocket Square Brooch 12, which is a jewelry piece made to serve as the alternative to wearing an artistically folded cloth handkerchief or pocket square elevated above the rim of the external breast pocket 16a of a suit jacket 16. The Pocket Square Brooch 12 is to be fastened above the external breast pocket 16a of a suit jacket 16 to simulate an elevated view. The invention 10 consists of two components, a Pocket Square Brooch 12 and a scatter pin 14b and clutch 14a fastener, FIG. 1b--4/FIG. 2--14a, 14b.

2. A pocket square brooch embodiment, referring to claim 1, comprising triangular leafs.

3. A pocket square brooch embodiment, referring to claim 1, containing a scatter pin and clutch fastener.
