Patent application title: Window air conditioner support platform

Inventors:  Richard Thomas Jones (Lake Elsinore, CA, US)
IPC8 Class: AF25D2310FI
USPC Class: 62262
Class name: Refrigeration structural installation window connected or mounted
Publication date: 2009-03-19
Patent application number: 20090071180

ng a window air conditioner unit in a window opening of a wall, consisting of a generally horizontal platform that rests one end on and just inside the window sill where at the end of a fixed support member that extends vertically below the platform, an attached horizontal cross member rests on the inside of the wall below the window sill, while the opposite end of the platform extends outward with a second support member extending vertically below the platform positioned so it's horizontal cross member contacts the outside of the aforementioned wall, securing the platform in place in a clamp like manner.

Claims:

1. This invention allows installation of window type air conditioners without requiring the insertion of fasteners in the walls or window sills of given dwellings.

2. This invention greatly reduces unit pressure loads on wall surfaces.

3. This invention can be utilized on wall thickness' as small as 2 inch.

Description:

[0001]An apparatus for supporting a window air conditioner unit in a window opening of a wall, consisting of a generally horizontal platform that rests one end on and just inside the window sill where at the end of a fixed support member that extends vertically below the platform, an attached horizontal cross member rests on the inside of the wall below the window sill, while the opposite end of the platform extends outward with a second support member extending vertically below the platform positioned so it's horizontal cross member contacts the outside of the aforementioned wall, securing the platform in place in a clamp like manner.

FIELD OF INVENTION

[0002]This invention relates to the installation of window air conditioners and the method of supporting such air conditioners which will fit narrow sills, carry loads of up to 120 pounds, does not require the insertion of fasteners into the walls or window sills, can be installed from inside a dwelling, minimizes unit pressure on wall surfaces, and can be utilized on wall thickness' down to 2 inch.

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION

[0003]The majority of Recreational Vehicles are designed and built with greater electrical power demand than the power supplied. As a result, appliances installed as standard equipment, such as televisions, microwaves, stereos, hair dryers and coffee makers, cannot always be operated while the air conditioner is in use, without tripping the main supply circuit breaker. This problem could be fixed by adding an additional air conditioner utilizing a separate power source. It would also reduce the work load on the RVs air conditioner, which costs two to three times the price of a comparable window unit to replace.

[0004]So adding a window air conditioner to a RV required a device and method that would not harm the structure or surfaces of the RV walls, required no insertion of fasteners into the walls or window sills, support up to 120 pounds, fit on a 2 inch thick window sill as small as 16 inches wide, was simple to install, and could be installed from the inside.

[0005]It is the principle object of this invention to provide a device and method for supporting window air conditioners in recreational vehicle windows which will fit narrow window sills, carry loads up to 120 pounds, does not require the insertion of fasteners into the walls or window sills, can be installed from the inside of dwelling, does not exert enough unit pressure to harm walls or wall surfaces, and can be utilized on wall thickness' down to 2 inch.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

[0006]FIG. 1 is a perspective view of top section of platform.

[0007]FIG. 2 is a perspective view of lower section of platform.

[0008]FIG. 3 is a side view of platform locating pin and keeper.

[0009]FIG. 4 is a side view of assembled platform resting on wall section.
