(in two dimensions, length and height) and
retractable screen which is easy to deploy, collapse and store into a
convenient storage rack (mounted on vehicle or kept separately within the
vehicle). The PSS (Portable Safety Screen) is designed for fast
deployment by 1 (one) person with aerodynamic features which allow for
the rush of oncoming air (sudden increase in ambient pressure) to pass
through the screen while maintaining the integrity of the screen. The
Portable Safety Screen (PSS) design includes the ability for additional
counter-weights (stored on the mounting system or kept in storage case)
to be affected (increasing the stability of the screen in high wind)
(caused naturally or by passing vehicles).Claims:
1. A potable, deployable and collapsible screen comprising of:1. Two
collapsible end members2. Two collapsible rods3. One screen4. Two reel
components for screen deployment and retraction5. Eight collapsible
braces to support upright standing of end members6. Two handles which
double as locking devices to keep end members in upright position7. Two
emergency lights (color to be decided by customer)Description:
1. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001]To my knowledge there are no referenced specific documents relating to my invention and there are no problems involving prior art which my invention is drawn toward.
2. CONCEPTION RECORD
[0002]June 2005 while caught in traffic on I 85 South (backup caused by accident on north bound lane) I witnessed a rear-end collision in front of my automobile. It is my belief that this secondary collision was the result of passing motorist attempting to view "look on" the accident scene in the oncoming lanes (rubber-necking) averting attention and focus from immediate driving requirements.
3. STATEMENT OF FIELD INVENTION PERTAINS
[0003]Emergency Response/Construction/Utility Work/Crime Scene Management/Industrial Safety Programs/Military Applications/any area where an easily deployable screen or "blind" would be of use.
4. BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0004]The Portable Safety Screen:
[0005]Is a portable, extendable (in two dimensions, length and height) and retractable screen which is easy to deploy, collapse and store into a convenient storage rack (mounted on vehicle or kept separately within the vehicle). The PSS (Portable Safety Screen) is designed for deployment by 1 (one person) with aerodynamic features which allow for the rush of oncoming air (sudden increase in ambient pressure) to pass through the blind while maintaining the integrity of the screen. The PSS (Portable Safety Screen) design includes the ability for additional counter-weights (stored on the mounting system or kept in storage case) to be attached (increasing the stability of the blind in high wind (caused naturally or by passing vehicles).
5. ADVANTAGES OF INNOVATION
[0006]Upon arrival to scene and assessing the situation the Portable Safety Screen can be deployed to: [0007]a. Preserve the integrity of the scene [0008]b. Preserve the dignity of the injured [0009]c. Reduce interference by uninvolved and interested persons [0010]d. Enhance safety of the immediate environment [0011]e. Reduce on-looking [0012]f. Reduce number of secondary incidences of injuries due to on-looking [0013]g. Reduce number of insurance claims "and hopefully insurance rates"
6. RAMIFICATIONS
[0014]I believe this Portable Safety Screen to be a novel invention which can reduce the number of accidents and or injuries suffered by on-lookers of automobile accidents. I believe the applications for this invention far exceeds the use at auto accidents. Examples: Provided in Replacement Claim.
7. ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
[0015]Highway Patrol Personnel can set up and be free to pursue unsafe motorist without compromising the area under protection unmarked.
8. DISTINGUISHED FROM OTHER INVENTIONS
[0016]Closes known design:
[0017]Hand inserted rods into canvas and attached to a base (requires more than 1 person).
9. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS
[0018]FIG. A1 Screen: Assembled three section screen with closed end pockets for insertion of Roll End Screen Rods and "V" slits for air to flow through screen
[0019]FIG. B1, B2 Collapsible Roll End and Pull End Screen Rods: Assembled three section screen rods are inserted into the end pockets to allow for the screen to be deployed and collapsed from and into Roll End Member (FIG. C1)
[0020]FIG. C1 Collapsible Roll End Member with Rubber Center Section and Reel Component: Assembled three section Roll End Member contains Top and Bottom Reel which allows for the deployment and retraction of the screen into the Roll End Member. The center section allows for the collapse of the Roll End
[0021]FIG. C2 Collapsible Pull End Member with Rubber Center Section: Assembled three section Pull End Member is a mirror image of the Reel End Member, without the reel component, with center section allowing for the collapse of the Pull End Member into the stowed position (FIG. D1)
[0022]FIG. D1 Side view of Portable Safety Screen in the Stowed Position Assembled End Members in collapsed poison allowing for the stowing of the Portable Safety Screen
[0023]FIG. E1 Portable Safety Screen Being Deployed Depiction of Roll End Member, Screen and Pull End Member during the deployment of the Portable Safety Screen
[0024]FIG. F1 Complete Portable Safety Screen Depiction of Completely Assembled Portable Safety Screen during deployment containing the Roll End Member, Fold Down Stand Support with collapsible locking bracket, Safety Screen and Pull End Member
