20130050008 | MOBILE COHERENT CHANGE DETECTION GROUND PENETRATING RADAR - Described are a method and system for detecting and locating changes in an underground region. Changes are detected using a mobile coherent change detection ground penetrating radar (GPR). The GPR system is located on a mobile platform that makes two more measurement passes over the same route to acquire GPR images of an underground region at different times. A lateral offset between the GPR images for the two different times is determined and applied to one of the GPR images to generate a GPR shifted image that is spatially aligned with the other GPR image using a correlation process or other technique. A GPR difference image is generated from the GPR shifted image and the other GPR image. The GPR difference image includes data representative of changes to the underground region that occurred between the two measurement passes. | 02-28-2013 |
20140121964 | VEHICLE LOCALIZATION USING SURFACE PENETRATING RADAR - Described are a method and a system for localization of a vehicle. The method includes the acquisition of SPR images of a subsurface region along a vehicle track. Acquired SPR images are compared to SPR images previously acquired for a subsurface region that at least partially overlaps the subsurface region along the vehicle track. In some embodiments, the comparison includes an image correlation procedure. Location data for the vehicle are determined based in part on location data for the SPR images previously acquired for the second subsurface region. Location data can be used to guide the vehicle along a desired path. The relatively static nature of features in the subsurface region provides the method with advantages over other sensor-based navigation systems that may be adversely affected by weather conditions, dynamic features and time-varying illumination. The method can be used in a variety of applications, including self-driving automobiles and autonomous platforms. | 05-01-2014 |

20150159224 | ULTRASENSITIVE DETECTION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CLUSTERED KRAS MUTATIONS USING PEPTIDE NUCLEIC ACID CLAMP PCR IN DROP-BASED MICROFLUIDICS - This disclosure employs the combination of a microfluidics platform and drop-based digital polymerase chain reaction (dPCR) to create a breakthrough technology that enables the detection of CTC genes and the isolation of single CTCs from the blood. In the first method, cDNA molecules from lysed CTCs are amplified in microfluidic drops and detected via fluorescence signal. In the second method, intact single CTCs are encapsulated, and amplification-positive drops are sorted from the remaining cells. To demonstrate the clinical utility of our technology, mutations in the KRAS gene in colorectal cancer are analyzed to study resistance to EGFR-based treatment as a test case. The methods herein present robust techniques for both the diagnosis and treatment of cancers, as well as for the obtainment of a pure CTC sample from billions of other cells in the blood. | 06-11-2015 |

20150264345 | Method for Coding Videos and Pictures Using Independent Uniform Prediction Mode - A method for decoding a bitstream, including compressed pictures of a video, wherein each picture includes one or more slices, wherein each slice includes one or more blocks of pixels, and each pixel has a value corresponding to a color, for each slice, first obtains a reduced number of colors corresponding to the slice, wherein each color is represented as a color triplet and the reduced number of colors is less than or equal to a number of colors in the slice. Then, for each block, a prediction mode is determined, wherein an independent uniform prediction mode is included in a candidate set of prediction modes. For each block, a predictor block is generated, wherein all values of the predictor block have a uniform value according to a color index when the prediction mode is set as the independent uniform prediction mode. Lastly, the predictor block is added to a reconstructed residue block to form a decoded block as output. | 09-17-2015 |
