20150087636Inhibition of DUX4 Expression Using Bromodomain and Extra-Terminal Domain Protein Inhibitors (BETi) - The use of BETi as a potential treatment for FSHD is provided. Specifically, the use of BETi, and particularly selective BETi for BRD4, are shown to inhibit DUX4 expression which is expected to result in a decrease in the severity of symptoms of FSHD. Further, the treatments are shown to work when pulsed as opposed to continuous. This allows for a BETi to be supplied to a human in a pulse, and then allows the human to not need any additional treatment for a window at least as long as the one of the treatment pulse.03-26-2015

20080254210OPTICAL ELEMENTS AND METHODS FOR MAKING THEREOF - Optical elements are made using micro-jet printing methods to precisely control the type, position and amount of polymer deposited onto a substrate. In preferred embodiments, the proportions of two or more different polymer compositions are varied over the course of the deposition process to deposit adjoining polymer pixels in the form of a film on the substrate surface. The optical properties of each adjoining polymer pixel can be selected to provide a predetermined optical property, including a specific value of index of refraction. Preferably, the film has a radially non-monotonic refractive index profile and/or an angularly non-monotonic refractive index profile.10-16-2008
20150042793Celestial Compass with sky polarization - A celestial compass with a sky polarization feature. The celestial compass includes an inclinometer, a camera system for imaging at least one celestial object and a processor programmed with a celestial catalog providing known positions at specific times of at least one celestial object and algorithms for automatically calculating target direction information based on the inclination of the system as measured by the inclinometer and the known positions of at least one celestial object as provided by the celestial catalog and as imaged by the camera. Preferred embodiments include backup components to determine direction based on the polarization of the sky when celestial objects are not visible.02-12-2015

20090137696METHOD FOR STABILIZING REFRACTIVE INDEX PROFILES USING POLYMER MIXTURES - A method for making an optical element comprises polymerizing a first monomer to form a first polymer, the first polymer having a spatially varying degree of cure that provides a predetermined refractive index profile; and polymerizing a second monomer in the presence of the first polymer to form a second polymer intermixed with the first polymer, the second polymer stabilizing the first polymer and the refractive index profile.05-28-2009
20100195212HIGH-ORDER ABERRATION CORRECTION FOR OPTIMIZATION OF HUMAN VISUAL FUNCTION - The present invention relates to the optimization of human visual function by correcting and/or optimizing high-order optical aberrations in high performance optical devices. The optimization is particularly useful for high performance devices used under low light conditions such as binoculars, rifle scopes, telescopes, microscopes, night vision goggles and laser eye protection devices.08-05-2010
20100302504OPTICAL ELEMENT FOR STABILIZING REFRACTIVE INDEX PROFILES USING POLYMER MIXTURES - An optical element comprising: a first monomer polymerized while in the presence of a second monomer to form a first polymer intermixed with the second monomer, the first polymer having a spatially varying degree of cure that provides a predetermined refractive index profile; and the second monomer polymerized in the presence of the first polymer to form a second polymer intermixed with the first polymer, the second polymer stabilizing the refractive index profile.12-02-2010
20110199572METHODS AND LENSES FOR CORRECTION OF CHROMATIC ABERRATION - The subject invention provides lenses, and methods for designing and manufacturing these lenses, with reduced chromatic aberration. Advantageously, these lenses are specifically designed to correct chromatic aberration that results as multichromatic light passes through the lenses.08-18-2011

20120105310Dynamic foveal vision display - A head mounted display system with at least one retinal display unit having a curved reflector positioned in front of one eye or both eyes of a wearer. The unit includes a first set of three modulated visible-light lasers co-aligned and adapted to provide a laser beam with selectable color and a first scanner unit providing both horizontal and vertical scanning of the laser beam across a portion of the curved reflector in directions so as to produce a reflection of the color laser beam through the pupil of the eye onto a portion of the retina large enough to encompass the fovea. The unit also includes a second set three modulated visible-light lasers plus an infrared laser, all lasers being co-aligned and adapted to provide a color and infrared peripheral view laser beam, and a second scanner unit providing both horizontal and vertical scanning of the visible light and infrared laser beams across a portion of the curved reflector in directions so as to produce a reflection of the scanned color and infrared laser beams through the pupil of the eye onto a portion of retina corresponding to a field of view of at least 30 degrees×30 degrees.05-03-2012
20130296452Custom Monomers and Polymers for Spectacle Lenses - Monomers and polymers used in making spectacle lenses are disclosed. A thermal curing process is disclosed that includes a latent thermal cationic acid generator and optionally a cationic photoinitiator.11-07-2013
