20090314278 | Barbecue Grill with Sear Section - Various embodiments of a gas valve and a sear-zone gas burner are described and claimed herein. One embodiment described herein relates to a control valve for regulating the flow of gas to a burner tube for a barbecue grill, wherein the control valve includes multiple flow settings, including a sear setting. At the sear setting, the valve is capable of providing additional gas flow to the gas burner to provide the intense heat needed to sear food. At the remaining settings, the valve is capable of providing an appropriate amount of gas flow for conventional cooking of food. Another embodiment of the gas valve is adapted to reduce the rotational offset between the off position and the maximum flow position as compared to the valves of the prior art. In that embodiment, the angular offset between the off position and the maximum flow position is approximately 45°. Another embodiment described herein relates to a burner tube configuration comprising a plurality of standard burner tubes and at least one supplementary sear-zone burner tube which is operable independently from the standard burner tubes. The sear-zone burner tube supplements the heat generated by the adjacent standard burner tubes to supply the intense heat needed to sear food. When the sear-zone burner tube is off, the portion of the cooking surface above the sear-zone burner tube can be used for conventional cooking of food. | 12-24-2009 |

20140158249 | CHANNELING GAS FLOW TUBE - A channel for moving gas between an entry into which gas is introduced and an exit through which gas exits, comprising a plurality of adjoining adjacent guides, each guide comprising an outer portion of a smoothly-curved, modified torus whose inner wall has concave curvature on the gas inlet and convex curvature on the gas outlet and has an inflection point of curvature axially downstream of the inlet of the respective guide. Each guide forms a smoothly curved internal cavity with a cavity mouth opening into the gas flow channel, the cavities shaped such that a vortex forms within each of the cavities as gas passes through the channel. Flow of fluid in the channel is unidirectional and axial from the entry to the exit. | 06-12-2014 |
20150337878 | CHANNELING FLUIDIC WAVEGUIDE SURFACES AND TUBES - Waveguide or flow guide surfaces can improve the efficiency of fluid flow through tubes or over surfaces. When incorporated in a tube, the waveguides improve flow and function as sound absorbers making them useful in engine mufflers, firearm silencer/suppressors and jet engine exhaust attenuators. On surfaces, the waveguides can reduce fluid drag and find use on projectiles (e.g., bullets), airfoils for aircraft, and land borne vehicles. The waveguide array in either a tubular chamber or on a surface comprises a plurality of successive wave-like undulations inclined generally in the direction of flow and when employed in tubes extending inwardly to permit an unobstructed path for the fluid gas from entry to exit. The waves define annular wave cavities between their successive inwardly extending edges and the wall of the chamber with each cavity having a cavity mouth open to the unobstructed path. The waveguides are sized and spaced so that gas vortices are created within the cavities when gas flow occurs which vortices create a fluid boundary layer that assists the gas flow. | 11-26-2015 |
