20120001068 | Method of Electron Diffraction Tomography - The invention relates to a method for electron diffraction tomography in a Transmission Electron Microscope. Known methods involve using Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope, and use the scanned beam for STEM diffraction. The invention proposes to form the diffraction patterns with a stationary beam with a diameter slightly larger than the crystal, as a result of which a TEM without STEM unit can be used. Finding the crystal is done in TEM mode. Advantages of the method according to the invention are: a TEM without scanning unit can be used, and the diffraction volume is not depending on the orientation of the crystal, as the whole crystal is illuminated while obtaining the diffraction pattern. | 01-05-2012 |

20090205891 | VEHICLE LOAD FLOOR SUPPORT WITH INTEGRAL AIR DUCT - A porous, sound absorbing structural foam load floor support is provided that defines an integral duct. The duct is configured as a ventilation air passage from the air outlet of a heat-emitting component, such as an energy storage system in a hybrid vehicle, so that the load floor support serves both to support the load floor as well as to provide a route for heat dissipation. By integrating the duct within the load floor support, a separate duct, which would have to route around other vehicle components located under the load floor, is not required. The structural foam load floor support is configured to absorb noise of a cooling system for the energy storage system. A porous expanded polypropylene foam is especially well-suited for noise attenuation and load floor support. | 08-20-2009 |

20120009573 | Antisense Transcriptomes of Cells - Transcription in mammalian cells can be assessed at a genome-wide level, but it has been difficult to reliably determine whether individual transcripts are derived from the Plus- or Minus-strands of chromosomes. This distinction can be critical for understanding the relationship between known transcripts (sense) and the complementary antisense transcripts that may regulate them. Here we describe a technique that can be used to (i) identify the DNA strand of origin for any particular RNA transcript and (ii) quantify the number of sense and antisense transcripts from expressed genes at a global level. We examined five different human cell types and in each case found evidence for antisense transcripts in 2900 to 6400 human genes. The distribution of antisense transcripts was distinct from that of sense transcripts, was non-random across the genome, and differed among cell types. Anti-sense transcripts thus appear to be a pervasive feature of human cells, suggesting that they are a fundamental component of gene regulation. | 01-12-2012 |
