20110035031 | PERSONALIZED ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM - A method of operating an entertainment system includes computer-implemented steps including accessing a remote electronic collection of audio/video recordings. The collection is associated with a user of the entertainment system. The recordings in the collection are analyzed to thereby determine an audio/video preference profile of the user. Electronic audio/video options of the entertainment system that conform to the user's preference profile are selected and offered to the user. | 02-10-2011 |

20100179754 | LOCATION BASED SYSTEM UTILIZING GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION FROM DOCUMENTS IN NATURAL LANGUAGE - A method of operating a location-based system includes identifying geographic information within unstructured electronic text. The identified geographic information, which includes street information, address information, or names of locations is extracted. Candidate geographic locations to which the identified geographic information may refer are determined. One of the candidate geographic locations is selected. An alphanumeric representation of the selected geographic location is utilized in a location-based service. The invented system performs each of the preceding steps. The system supports the extraction of all locations mentioned in the unstructured text, applying the steps mentioned above. | 07-15-2010 |

20090045064 | Methods and Devices for High-Throughput Dielectrophoretic Concentration - Disclosed herein are methods and devices for assaying and concentrating analytes in a fluid sample using dielectrophoresis. As disclosed, the methods and devices utilize substrates having a plurality of pores through which analytes can be selectively prevented from passing, or inhibited, on application of an appropriate electric field waveform. The pores of the substrate produce nonuniform electric field having local extrema located near the pores. These nonuniform fields drive dielectrophoresis, which produces the inhibition. Arrangements of electrodes and porous substrates support continuous, bulk, multi-dimensional, and staged selective concentration. | 02-19-2009 |

20090008256 | System for Concentrating and Analyzing Particles Suspended in a Fluid - Disclosed is a device for separating and concentrating particles suspended in a fluid stream by using dielectrophoresis (DEP) to trap and/or deflect those particles as they migrate through a fluid channel. The method uses fluid channels designed to constrain a liquid flowing through it to uniform electrokinetic flow velocities. This behavior is achieved by connecting deep and shallow sections of channels, with the channel depth varying abruptly along an interface. By careful design of abrupt changes in specific permeability at the interface, an abrupt and spatially uniform change in electrokinetic force can be selected. Because these abrupt interfaces also cause a sharp gradient in applied electric fields, a DEP force also can be established along the interface. Depending on the complex conductivity of the suspended particles and the immersion liquid, the DEP force can controllably complement or oppose the local electrokinetic force transporting the fluid through the channel allowing for manipulation of particles suspended in the transporting liquid. | 01-08-2009 |

20090286225 | METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR BACTERIOPHAGE-BASED DIAGNOSTIC ASSAYS - Bacteriophage are combined with a test sample in an incubator, and the bacteriophage-exposed test sample is conjugated and applied to a sample pad in contact with a lateral flow strip to determine the presence or absence of a target bacterium. The conjugation may be performed in the sample pad or prior to application of the bacteriophage-exposed test sample to the pad. The incubator comprises a bacteriophage container and an incubation container separated by a valve. The test sample may be inserted into the incubation chamber using a swab or a rod with a piercing tip and a sample collection eye. The valve comprises a breakable stem. An antibiotic may be added to the test sample to determine the antibiotic resistance or susceptibility of the bacterium. | 11-19-2009 |
