20090008859 | Multi-segment weight measurement apparatus and method for processing sheet material - A weighing apparatus and method for measuring the weight of articles fed along a processing path. The weighing apparatus includes multiple segments, i.e., a primary scale segment adapted to weigh articles of a first configuration, and at least one secondary scale segment adapted to cooperate with the primary segment to weigh articles of a second configuration. The articles of the second configuration are larger than those of the first configuration in at least one dimension or direction. Inasmuch as the articles are fed along a processing path, a conveyor or transport means is provided to feed the articles to the scale segments. The conveyor may be controlled to momentarily pause the articles over each scale segment to obtain an accurate weight measurement. The weight measurement apparatus is particularly well-suited for use in mailing machines to calculate the value of postage indicia. | 01-08-2009 |
20090057974 | SHEET/PAGE BUFFER FOR SHEET HANDLING APPARATUS - A page buffer for receiving and holding, in queue, pages prepared by a printer and subsequently processed by mailpiece inserter. The page buffer includes pairs of vertically-aligned rollers defining a plurality of page stations therebetween. Each pair of rollers is spaced-apart and defines a nip for driving printed pages along a feed path. Furthermore, each page station is defined by and between a first pair of rollers disposed downstream of an adjacent second pair of rollers. A drive means is also provided for independently driving the pairs of vertically-aligned rollers. The drive means is controlled such that, in a first operating mode, the pairs cooperate to drive printed pages along the feed path. In a second operating mode, the drive means is controlled such that at least one of the page stations causes its respective first pair of rollers to retain and hold a leading edge portion of a printed page while the adjacent second pair drives and releases a trailing edge portion of the printed page. The printed page is, therefore, held within the page station such that the trailing edge droops below the feed path in a predominantly vertical orientation. | 03-05-2009 |
20090088893 | DYNAMIC SELECTION OF FOLD-ADDRESS TO MATCH DOCUMENT LAYOUT - A method for coding the address location on a document or in a data base so that two or more electronic mailings with differing address placements may be combined together and sorted while the mailings are still in electronic form in order to take advantage of workshare discounts, delivery sequence efficiency, desired delivery date, class of delivery service, etc. | 04-02-2009 |
20090091073 | INGESTION GUIDE ASSEMBLY FOR AUGMENTING SHEET MATERIAL SEPARATION IN A SINGULATING APPARATUS - An ingestion assembly is provided for a singulating apparatus having a conveyor system for moving a stack of sheet material along a feed path. The ingestion assembly is spatially positioned above the conveyor belt and includes at least one singulating roller driven in a direction opposing the motion of the conveyor belt. The ingestion assembly comprises an assembly support rotationally mounting the singulating roller at a downstream end portion and pivotally mounting to the singulating apparatus at an upstream end portion. A movable guide mounts to the assembly support and is positionable relative thereto as a function of a force vector imposed on the guide by the sheet material. Additionally, the moveable guide includes a surface operative to guide the sheet material into a singulating interface which is formed between the singulating roller and the conveyor system. In operation, sheet material enters the throat of the ingestion assembly and contact is made with the moveable guide. When the force vector, imposed by the sheet material, is less than a threshold level, the guide assumes a first position operative to shingle sheet material in preparation for singulation by the singulating roller. When the force vector, is greater than the threshold level, movable guide assumes a second position operative to pivot the assembly support and increase the singulating interface. Consequently, sheet material having a larger thickness dimension may pass for separation by the singulation apparatus. | 04-09-2009 |
20090152796 | MULTIMODE STACK AND SHINGLE DOCUMENT FEEDER - A feeder for feeding media items from a tray includes a first nudger roller and a second nudger roller. The first and the second nudger roller are moveably mounted to the feeder. The first and the second nudger rollers are in a first position when a tray of a first type is connected to said feeder the first and said second nudger rollers are in a second position when a tray of a second type is connected to said feeder. The tray of a first type may be a shingle feed tray and the tray of a second type may be a stacks feed tray. With the shingle feed tray the first position for the first and the second nudger rollers are where each nudger roller engages each media item in a shingles tray when each such media item is positioned in the shingles tray to exit the shingles tray and to be moved from the shingles tray into said feeder. With the stacks feed tray the second position for the first and the second nudger rollers are where the first nudger roller is positioned out of engagement with media items in a stacks tray and the second nudger rollers is positioned to each engage each media item in the stacks tray when each such media item is positioned in said stacks tray to exit the stacks tray and to be moved from the stacks tray into said feeder. | 06-18-2009 |
20090157909 | CONFIGURABLE METHOD FOR CONNECTING ONE OR MORE DEVICES TO A MEDIA PROCESS SYSTEM - A software sign on sequence is provided that allows devices to negotiate how they will communicate, what data will be exchanged and how they will mechanically operate, when they are connected to each other. This avoids the necessity of supplying new software programs to each device which is time consuming and expensive. | 06-18-2009 |

20080227079 | Method, Apparatus and Computer Program Code for Automation of Assessment Using Rubrics - A method and apparatus is provided for facilitating the assessment of entities including persons, standards, and/or environments. Contextual information, such as that representing the assessment by a teacher for a student, can be captured by a portable ingestion device and recorded onto media for processing and mapping into rubrics. Assessments can be optionally processed for further analysis. | 09-18-2008 |
20100017757 | METHOD AND SYSTEM TO REDUCE WORKLOAD AND SKILLS REQUIRED IN USAGE OF MOUSE OR OTHER POINTING DEVICES - A method and system are disclosed for controlling operation of a cursor on a display screen of a computer system. In the operation of the computer system, one or more areas on the display screen are designated as user interface areas for receiving input from a user via a Graphical User Interface. The preferred method of this invention comprises the steps of, for each of the user interface areas, designating an area on the display screen as an associated cursor-auto area; and the user applying input to the computer system to move the cursor on the display screen and into one of the cursor-auto areas. When the cursor moves into said one of the cursor-auto areas, the computer system automatically performs a predefined operation to associate visually the cursor with the user interface area associated with said one of the cursor-auto areas. | 01-21-2010 |
20100034366 | PARTICIPANT ALERTS DURING MULTI-PERSON TELECONFERENCES - A method for alerting teleconference participants includes: activating a mute function in response to a participant command; tracking a teleconference's conversation audio; determining the level of alertness of a participant; determining whether the participant's name is detected in the teleconference audio; wherein in the event the participant's name is detected: determining whether the context in which the participant was addressed requires the participant to respond; wherein in the event the participant is required to respond: alerting the participant that the participant has been summoned and is required to make a response; providing a conversation summarization to the participant; and deactivating the participant's mute function. | 02-11-2010 |
