20080269370 | Strain-hardened interpenetrating polymer network hydrogel - A strain-hardened interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogel is provided. The interpenetrating polymer network hydrogel is based on two different networks. The first network is a non-silicone network of preformed hydrophilic non-ionic telechelic macromonomers chemically cross-linked by polymerization of its end-groups. The second network is a non-silicone network of ionizable monomers. The second network has been polymerized and chemically cross-linked in the presence of the first network and has formed physical cross-links with the first network. An aqueous salt solution having a neutral pH is used to ionize and swell the second network in the interpenetrating polymer network. The swelling of the second network is constrained by the first network, and this constraining effect results in an increase in effective physical cross-links within the interpenetrating polymer network, and, in turn, an increase its elastic modulus. The strain-hardened interpenetrating polymer network hydrogel is attractive and useful for medical, industrial, and personal hygiene purposes. | 10-30-2008 |

20140378573 | PHOTOACOUSTIC MATCHING MATERIAL AND HUMAN TISSUE SIMULATION MATERIAL - Since a medium having light propagation properties and sound propagation properties similar to those of human tissues is provided, reflection of light and an acoustic wave at a surface of a test portion is prevented, and accuracy control of a photoacoustic wave diagnostic apparatus is realized. A photoacoustic matching material is provided which includes a polyol, an inorganic oxide, and a pigment, the latter two being dispersable in the polyol, and in this photoacoustic matching material, a dispersed amount of the inorganic oxide to the polyol is in a range of 0.10 to 0.25 percent by weight, and a dispersed amount of the pigment to the polyol is in a range of 0.0001 to 0.0005 percent by weight. | 12-25-2014 |

20160003978 | COMPOSITION FOR OPTICAL MATERIAL AND OPTICAL MATERIAL OBTAINED THEREFROM - With the present invention, it is possible to provide a composition for optical materials which comprises: a polythiol compound satisfying any one of the following i) to iii) i) the compound has an ammonium cation concentration of 0.1 to 400 μmol/kg, ii) the compound has a thiocyanic acid anion concentration of 0.1 to 600 μmol/kg, and iii) the compound has an ammonium cation concentration of 0.1 to 400 μmol/kg and a thiocyanic acid anion concentration of 0.1 to 600 μmol/kg, the product of the ammonium cation concentration and the thiocyanic acid anion concentration being 0.01 to 100,000 (μmol/kg) | 01-07-2016 |
20160158402 | COMPOSITIONS AND DEVICES OF POLY-4-HYDROXYBUTYRATE - Compositions of P4HB with high purity have been developed. The compositions are prepared by washing P4HB biomass prior to solvent extraction, and precipitating P4HB from solution. The same solvent is preferably used to wash the P4HB biomass, and as a non-solvent to precipitate the polymer from a P4HB solvent solution. The highly pure P4HB compositions are suitable for preparing implants. The implants may be used for the repair of soft and hard tissues. | 06-09-2016 |
20160184487 | SURFACE-MODIFIED METAL AND METHOD FOR MODIFYING METAL SURFACE - Provided are surface-modified metals such as metal medical devices e.g., guide wires, syringe needles, and metal tubes in medical devices or equipment, and methods for modifying a metal surface, wherein a lubricant layer is firmly bonded to the surface to impart lubricity to the surface and, further, improve the durability of the lubricant layer on the surface, thereby suppressing deterioration of the sliding properties. Included is a surface-modified metal having a surface at least partially treated by polymerization of a monomer in the presence of a thermal polymerization initiator. | 06-30-2016 |
