20120063965 | METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FAST PYROLYSIS OF BIOMASS IN ROTARY KILNS - Described herein are systems and methods for achieving fast pyrolysis of wood and other carbonaceous solids in rotary reactors. Novel heating, feeding and condensing methods result in high oil yields near those currently achieved with more complicated fast pyrolysis systems. High intensity burners are arranged and controlled to produce high heating rates and uniform temperature of the rotating cylindrical walls of the reactors. The feeding system delays the onset of pyrolysis until the solids fall onto the heated kiln walls. The pyrolysis gases and vapors are rapidly withdrawn and quenched with recycled liquids. The first condenser incorporates a clean out nozzle. Char products are readily separated and discharged into a heat exchanger where heat is recovered and used together with heat from reactor flue gas to dry the solids prior to being fed to the reactor. | 03-15-2012 |
20140044602 | BIOMASS FEED SYSTEM INCLUDING GAS ASSIST - An improved biomass feed system and processes for transporting biomass to downstream processing locations are disclosed. The system uses a pressurized gas to assist in the transporting of the biomass to the conversion reactor. | 02-13-2014 |
20140079598 | CARBONIZING DEVICE - The carbonizing apparatus includes a heating chamber that thermally decomposes a treatment object by heating, a preliminary chamber through which the treatment object is carried from an outside into the heating member in a state in which the heating chamber is substantially shielded from the outside, the preliminary chamber being provided between the heating chamber and the outside, a plurality of cooling chambers in which the treatment object is treated after thermal decomposition, shielding doors that close the preliminary chamber, the heating chamber, and the cooling chambers arranged in series, a transport means that transports the treatment object while opening and closing the shielding doors, and exhaust pipes through which gas discharged from the preliminary chamber, the heating chamber, and the cooling chambers is exhausted. The treatment object is carbonized while being sequentially passed through the preliminary chamber, the heating chamber, and the cooling chambers. | 03-20-2014 |
20150050192 | Activated Carbon Manufacturing System - An activated carbon manufacturing system can efficiently heat a wood material or carbide to promote a drying process, a carbonization process and an activation process in manufacturing activated carbon, and can reduce the environmental load involved in the manufacture of activated carbon. Specifically, a drying process of a wood material is achieved by heating the wood material with saturated steam at an appropriate temperature, and an initial carbonization process of the wood material is achieved by heating the wood material with superheated steam. Therefore, the wood material can be heated with high heat transfer efficiency, so that the heat loss can be reduced, and neither a drying device nor a first carbonizing device produces a gas containing a harmful constituent in the heating processes, so that the adverse effect on the environment can be reduced. | 02-19-2015 |
20150110680 | SOLIDS REMOVAL FROM BIO-OIL USING BIOMASS FILTER AID - A green process and system are disclosed for utilizing a biomass filter aid in the filtration of a bio-oil. The process comprises filtering a bio-oil containing residual solids from a conversion reaction in the presence of the biomass filter aid to produce a filtered bio-oil. The biomass filter aid facilitates efficient removal of residual solids from the bio-oil. The spent biomass filter aid containing the residual solids may be recycled as a conversion feedstock or used as a combustion heat source in the biomass conversion system. | 04-23-2015 |
20160164123 | HYDROGEN PRODUCING FUEL CARTRIDGE AND METHODS FOR PRODUCING HYDROGEN - In aspects of the disclosure, a fuel cartridge wherein the fuel is in a powdered form is admixed with inert materials such as alumina or other ceramics to improve thermal conductivity. Said cartridge having fuel zones, heating zones, and controllers to selectively heat fuel zones and thereby generate hydrogen via decomposition of fuel is disclosed. | 06-09-2016 |
20160376512 | CONVERSION OF CARBONACEOUS FUELS INTO CARBON FREE ENERGY CARRIERS - A system for converting fuel is provided and includes a first reactor comprising a plurality of ceramic composite particles, the ceramic composite particles comprising at least one metal oxide disposed on a support, wherein the first reactor is configured to reduce the at least one metal oxide with a fuel to produce a reduced metal or a reduced metal oxide; a second and reactor configured to oxidize at least a portion of the reduced metal or reduced metal oxide from the said first reactor to produce a metal oxide intermediate; a source of air; and a third reactor communicating with said source of air and configured to regenerate the at least one metal oxide from the remaining portion of the solids discharged from the said first reactor and the solids discharged from the said second reactor for by oxidizing the metal oxide intermediate. | 12-29-2016 |
